SFAI U13 Boys: Colemanstown Utd A 0 – 6 Roscommon Town. Saturday morning’s match at home to Roscommon Town in SFAI cup first round can only be described as Jekyl and Hyde performance. A depleted squad lined out to play a well organised, skilful Roscommon team. Kerrill Walsh in goals was the busier of the 2 keepers for the first half making some great saves as we struggled to get to grips with the game all over the field. Our back 4 of Aaron Burke, Chris Burke, Matt Feeney and Jack Grealish were under a lot of pressure from the waves of attacks from a skilful and quick Roscommon side. Inside the first 10 mins we were 2 behind. On 15 mins a third was added. A quick reshuffle with Oisin Flannery, Eoghan Burke and Jack seemed to settle us a bit but a misfortunate accidental handball in the box further punished us as their number 10 dispatched the penalty. James Kilkenny and Se Laffey on the flanks tried tirelessly to get some ball into Evan Molloy and Mark Shaughnessy but were with a wall-like Roscommon defence. Roscommon were relentless and added 2 more before the break to leave our boys reeling with a massive uphill battle to take on in the second half. 6-0 at the break.
The boys to their credit dusted themselves off at half time and came back out with a renewed fight and determination to take the game to Roscommon. Eoghan O Neill replaced Mark Shaughnessy with Phelim Flynn taking up the goalkeeper role for the second half. The lads began to keep some possession and pin back the visitors. A few half chances were created but none troubled the keeper too much. Ethan Monaghan replaced Chris Burke and James Kilkenny moved to a central role where he drove at the Roscommon rear guard forcing a few free kicks and some last ditch tackles. Se Laffey grew into the game in the final quarter and was taken down outside the box. He took the free himself which had the keeper scrambling to make the save. Final score was 6-0 but huge credit to the squad who kept going when it would have been easier to lie down and concede a few more goals. Match Report: Adrian Burke.

U15Boys Div 2 Colemanstown 2 – 0 Athenry. Our U15 Boys had their first home game of the new season on Saturday against local rivals Athenry. Both sides enjoyed spells of possession in ideal conditions & with a bit of luck, Colemanstown took the lead 20 minutes in when Owen Hillary capitalised on a defensive mistake. Athenry looked to respond, but keeper Aidan Quinn was alert to their efforts, while the back four stood strong to limit clear chances. Into the second half and the boys created loads of chances to double their lead as Finian Walsh, Owen Hillary and Caelan Noone had efforts well saved or just narrowly wide. The pressure finally paid off when Odhran Madden worked the ball to Sean Forde, who laid it off to Thomas Kennedy who found the back of the net with a cracking effort from the edge of the box. It was no more than the boys deserved as they worked hard to keep a clean sheet. Adam Mitchell stepped up to make his debut for the U15s and also worked hard down the left wing. Final score: 2-0. Match Report: Alan Walsh.
Squad: Aidan Quinn, Daragh Blake, Oisin Nugent, Darragh Finnerty, Odhran Madden, Sean Forde, Finian Walsh, Owen Hillary, Thomas Kennedy, Mikey Nutley, Iarlaith Griffin, Tim Ruane, Calean Noone, Conor Saunders, Adam Mitchell
SFAI U13 Boys: Colemanstown Utd ‘B’ 1 -6 Valley Rovers. Colemanstown U13B team welcomed Valley Rovers from Sligo for the first round game of the SFAI Cup. Avey Mahon started in goal with Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Eugene Kelly and James Flaherty making up the back four. Oisin Duane captained the side and played on the right wing with Oisin Kelly, Cathal Burns and George Moore completing the midfield. James Vignoles and Jamie Lally lead the attack. Valley Rovers wasted no time getting into the game and forced Avey into a great save after 5 minutes. But this only seemed to drive Valley Rovers on and they took the lead with a through ball a minute later. We tried to get back into the game but just couldn’t get on the ball and conceded from a free kick that wasn’t cleared after 14 minutes and soon after Valley Rovers were 3 up. Shane Broderick and Igor Zidek came on for Cathel Burns and James Flaherty after 24 minutes but Valley Rovers kept coming and we went in 5 nil down at half time but could have been worse was it not for Avey Mahon making some good saves. We were again slow out of the blocks in the second half as Valley Rovers piled on the pressure with 2 more quick goals. Avey Mahon and Jamie Lally made way for James Flaherty and Andrew Davoren as Valley Rovers made it 8. A fortunate own goal got us on the score sheet 10 minutes into the second half. Niall Kane replaced George Moore who was beginning to tire. When Cathel Burns clipped the cross bar from a free kick at the edge of the box we knew there was no way back and as our heads dropped. Valley Rovers put us to the sword and showed no mercy. The game finished with a heavy defeat which is a very tough pill to swallow but we can’t have too many complaints as we were out muscled, out worked and out played. Best of luck to Valley Rovers in the next round as we turn our attention to Corofin in the league on Monday. Match Report: Dermot Moore.
U13 Girls Champ: Colemanstown 0-3 Renmore. Our U13 girls welcomed Renmore to Colemanstown for their first home league game of the season. Our girls stood firm for the opening 10mins, but Renmore soon found their rhythm & struck twice before the break to lead 2-0 at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern, with the visitors adding a third to seal a 3-0 victory. Despite the result, the Colemanstown girls battled hard throughout & will take plenty of positives into their next outing. Match Report: Ann Forde
U13 Boys Division 2: Colemanstown Utd FC B 0-0 Corofin Utd B. Just over 48 hours since our last game, our U13B boys welcomed Corofin for their second league game, under lights in Colemanstown yesterday evening. After a very tough result on Saturday it was time to regroup and reorganise. Playing a 5-4-1 formation this time, Avey Mahon took up his usual place in goal. James Vignoles, Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Igor Zidek and James Flaherty made up the back five with strict instructions to keep formation and not to concede. George Moore, Patrick Collins, Oisin Kelly and Dara Ryan played across the middle and our captain on the night, Jamie Lally up front on his own. It was a cagey opening as both teams tried to feel their way into the game but from the off our boys stuck to the game plan and worked their socks off. Our pressure and work rate paid off and we won a corner after 11 mins with Oisin Kelly going close. After 15 mins Patrick Collins made a fantastic run and slotted the ball home, only for the ref to call offside. By all accounts an incorrect call but the boys didn’t let that dent their confidence and they continued to grow into the game. Our back line was dealt very well with any Corofin attack, keeping their shape and making great decisions. Conor Finnerty was a rock at centre back and made sure his team mates were in the right place at the right time. Avey Mahon made a great save with an outstretched left boot to put it out for a corner, which we promptly dealt with and cleared our lines. On 20min, after a nasty clash in which James Flaherty took a bang to the face, forcing him off, Eugene Kelly replaced him at left back. We controlled the rest of the half with some great passing & possession play and again Patrick Collins was unlucky when a shot dragged slightly wide in the 27th minute. The boys took a well earned break at half time with the game all to play for.
Four minutes into the second half, Corofin won a free on the edge of the box, which they fired over. Igor Zidek then made way for Iarla Thompson with Oisin Kelly dropping into the back line and Andrew Davoren came on for Jamie Lally who had run his socks off. As the game wore on, we pushed for the winning goal and George Moore came close with a shot after some great work in the middle by his teammates. Niall Kane replaced George with 5 minutes to go as we released the handbrake a little by pushing James Vignoles and Oisin Kelly into midfield and Iarla Thompson dropped to right back. And it nearly paid off when Oisin forced the Corofin keeper into a great save with only 2 minutes remaining. Dara Ryan then made a fantastic run down the left wing and cut inside where Oisin Kelly was tackled, fairly deemed the ref but on another day would have been awarded a penalty. With only 1 minute to go, Corofin broke down the other end and were forced to shoot wide from distance. This enthralling game finished 0-0 with each and every player exhausted. A great team effort and gets us off the mark in the league. Great foundation to build from for the next game. Match Report: Dermot Moore.
