‘A’ Team end poor run in emphatic style

Tuam Celtic 1 Colemanstown 2
Colemanstown A Team advanced to the last 16 of the Michael Byrne cup with an extremely hard fought win over Tuam Celtic on Friday evening. Played under floodlights, in wet, cold and windy conditions, this was always going to be a tough game.

Colemanstown started well and created many early chances. They were rewarded with an early lead, through a Damien Wynne penalty, after some excellent dribbling on the wing from Mossy Carr. The home side responded with chances of their own. However the back four of Damien Wynne, Jason Finn, Sean Hardiman and Alan Finn stood firm.

The sides were level early in the second half, through a Tuam Celtic penalty. Colemanstown’s response was immediate. A precision cross from Richie Lally was met with a thunderous and accurate long range header from Tom Flannery.

From then on it was always going to be a battle, as conditions worsened and as both teams tired. Injuries to Alan Finn, Jason Finn and Niall Gelston didn’t help the away team. However our lads fought through the injuries and held out for a much appreciated win. Man of the match Alan Junior Finn was rock solid in goals throughout, especially in the second half. Well done lads. Great to get the win after knocking on the door for so long.  Match report by Ollie Crowe
