Wynne & Moran goals claim points for Under 13’s

Our under 13’s took on Salthill Devon at home yesterday in the league and as we all know Salthill never field a poor team so a tough game was in store. Colemanstown started off brightly and secured most of the first half possession assisted by a strong breeze while Salthill struggled to get a grip on the game. Thady Moran had a few early chances which he failed to take but it was Adam Wynne who broke the deadlock 15mins in; the goal originating from a set piece. A perfectly taken corner from Thady Moran landed at the feet of Adam Wynne and from 6 yards out he toe poked the ball over the line; albeit the Salthill keeper did manage to get a hand to it. Colemanstown had a few more first half chances but the Salthill defence swallowed up everything that seemed to originate into anything worthwhile while Salthill made a few chances but were unable to convert any. At half time it was 1-0 to the home side. The second half followed much the same pattern but this time the breeze assisted the opposition as Salthill came more into the game. 10mins after the restart a deliberate handball by Josh Brennan resulted in a free kick taken from the left side; the Salthill striker lifted the ball nicely over the wall but Colemanstown custodian Jason Fahy dived superbly to make a good clean catch. Our second goal came midway through the 2nd half originating in a poor kick out by the Salthill keeper to their left back, whose attempted clearance was blocked by Shane Burke; the rebound fell nicely for Kellie Brennan who got entangled in a few defenders, one of which took her down from behind. The resultant penalty was dispatched by Thady Moran but just about, as it thundered off the crossbar and bounced over the goal line. Salthill attacked in a bid to come right back into the game but our defence of Jason Keane, Ethan Lally, Josh Brennan & Brian Kelly were emphatic as they stood manfully and played an entire defending game to the end. Salthill had a couple of chances towards the end but custodian Jason Fahy did well in goals. Shane Burke had a late chance to extend the scoreline when he ran on to an exquisite chip from Adam Wynne but got swallowed up by the outcoming Salthill keeper. 2-0 it finished but more importantly all 3 points for David Gilligan’s charges which sees them sit in second position in the table tonight 5 points behind league leaders Cregmore/Claregalway. Mika Harun was exceptional in midfield with some thwarting runs, Luke Mitchell and Shane Burke did some splendid stuff on the wings while Brian Kelly did some great work in defence particularly in the first period of the second half. Adam Wynne was a tower of strength and together with Thady Moran took complete control of midfield winning a lot of ball and played some intelligent cross field passes. Panel: Jason Fahy, Jason Keane, Ethan Lally, Josh Brennan, Brian Kelly, Luke Mitchell, Thady Moran, Mika Harun, Adam Wynne, Shane Burke, Kellie Brennan, Kyle McGuire-Greaney, Harry Greaney, Evan Waldron.
