Kerrill Hardiman combined brilliantly with Mossy Carr as he overlapped at pace before drawing the defender’s attention. Athenry emerged strong after the restart & drew level soon after from a corner, as Colemanstown failed to clear their lines & were punished to make it 1–1. The response, however, was immediate. Good work through the middle from Tiarnan Proulx & Luke Williams worked the ball into the box, allowing centre back Richie Lally to burst forward into space. After a goalmouth scramble & an initial save from the Athenry custodian, Richie Lally reacted quickest to poke the ball over the line & restore Colemanstown’s lead at 2–1. Midway through the 2nd half the visitors again found an equaliser as they capitalised on some sloppy defending to restore parity at 2–2. With the match finely poised, Colemanstown rang the changes; Tommy Mellody, Aironas Kantauskas & Matthew Keane were introduced in an effort to steady the ship. The decisive moment arrived courtesy of veteran Tom Flannery. Showing great composure, he brought the ball down deftly just inside the box before unleashing a powerful strike to the right of the keeper to put Colemanstown 3–2 ahead. Jack Dillon was introduced late on to freshen things up as Colemanstown dug deep to see out the closing stages.
