Weekend action: U13A & B Boys drive on; Great display from U13 Girls despite loss.

Boys U13B Div 2: Corofin Utd B 1 -2 Colemanstown B. This first game of 2026 for our U13B Boys was played on a dark, cold morning with the pitch proving to be heavy, wet, and muddy. Colemanstown set up in a 4-4-2 formation with Cathal Burns leading the side as captain. Colemanstown dominated the opening half, playing lovely football despite the difficult surface. The chances came early and often. Within 2 mins, Cathal Burns played a great ball through to James Vignoles, who crossed to Patrick Collins, but his shot was well saved. On 9mins a ball over the top found the pacy Patrick Collins again; he broke through and forced the keeper into another save. The breakthrough arrived on 12 mins. Colemanstown won the Corofin kickout and quickly shifted the ball wide to James Vignoles, who cut inside before laying it off to Oisín Kelly. Kelly struck a fierce long-range effort that slipped through the keeper’s grasp and over the line to claim his eighth goal of the campaign giving Colemanstown a 0-1 lead. 2mins later James Flaherty sent a great ball down the left for Vignoles. He cut into the box, but a last-second Corofin tackle denied him a shot on target. The defensive unit of Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Matthew Kelly, and James Flaherty remained rock solid, keeping Corofin quiet. After a tireless shift, James Vignoles made way for Jamie Lally. The pressure continued as Cathal Burns saw his free kick saved. Moments later, a Burns corner broke to George Moore in the box, but his shot was also stopped by the busy Corofin keeper.

At the break, Colemanstown were firmly on top, having limited Corofin to just one shot in the 1st half. Colemanstown started the second half with high intensity. Cathal Burns dribbled past two players into the box only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle, which led to three quick corners. Shortly after, Senan Prolux made a fantastic overlapping run and cross that the keeper spilled, nearly resulting in a second goal. Then 5mins after the restart, against the run of play, Corofin won a corner. Colemanstown failed to react to the delivery, and a Corofin player was left with a free header to make it 1-1. 2mins later as Colemanstown’s sought an immediate response, Oisin Kelly floated a corner (Colemanstown’s 8th of the second half) to Jamie Lally, whose header unfortunately rattled off the crossbar. Then came a nervous moment with the game in stalemate when Colemanstown gave away a cheap indirect free kick outside the box. The Corofin player hit a powerful shot straight into the net, but the goal was disallowed as no one else had touched it. Everyone in a green jersey breathed a sigh of relief. Midway through the 2nd half as Corofin grew into the game, a through ball put their striker one-on-one with the goal, but Avey Mahon was quick to advance off his line to make a massive save. On 23 minutes a quadruple substitution brought Andrew Davoren, Eugene Kelly, Igor Ziolek, and the return of James Vignoles into the game. The changes paid dividends immediately. Oisin Duane, who was feeling unwell before the game but put in a massive shift, played a lovely through ball for Andrew Davoren. With his very first touch, Davoren calmly shot past the out-rushing keeper to make it 1-2. For the remainder of the game, Colemanstown kept it tight, fought for each other, and put in great tackles to see out the win. It was a gritty, well deserved 1-2 victory away from home, as we start the new year with a nice but hard-earned victory. Match Report: Dermot Moore.

Boys U13 Championship 2: Colemanstown Utd A: 8 – 2 Colga B. Our U13A’s resumed their league on Saturday after the Christmas break and they certainly started 2026 strong. The opposition was Colga B who sat just above Colemanstown on the league table. Right from kick off the boys sought to take control of the match and began to dominate all over the pitch with some lovely passages of possession. We got a tonic start on 10 mins when some neat link up play involving George Costelloe, Conor Egan, James Kilkenny, Sé Laffey and Oisin Flannery resulted in a perfect through ball for the in-form Frank Dunne to rush onto. Frank’s shot was parried by the keeper but Oisin Flannery was on hand to finish powerfully to the net. The lads created a few more chances but Oisin Flannery, Evan Molloy and Frank Dunne all failed to double the lead. At the back Matt Feeney and Conor Egan were comfortable in central defence while Aaron Burke and George Costello settled into their respective full back roles well and kept the Colga attack to a few half chances. We were left to rue our missed opportunities on 20 mins when a nice move from Colga through the middle saw their midfielder slip a nice through ball onto their winger who finished well. On 25 mins Mark Shaughnessy came in to replace Eoghan Burke who had a big shift put in, tirelessly working on the right wing. The change was immediate as Mark slipped a nice ball round the back of the defence and Frank Dunne was on hand to finish. The lads pushed for a 3rd and a super delivery into the box from Aaron Burke just grazed Frank’s head and trickled wide. Half time score Colemanstown Utd: 2 – Colga B. Our half time substitutions saw Kerrill Walsh replace Phelim Flynn in goals and Chris Burke came into defence for Aaron Burke.

Colemanstown spent the majority of the second half camped in the Colga half of the pitch and held possession well. Frank Dunne hit 2 goals in 5 mins the second one a super move as James Kilkenny won the ball in midfield and swept a lovely ball wide to Sé Laffey who took on his man and squared to Frank Dunne to complete his hattrick. Eoghan O’Neill replaced George Costelloe and got into the play instantly. Mark Shaughnessy grabbed our 5th goal of the day as he was quickest to react to James Kilkenny’s thunderbolt off the crossbar. Mark controlled beautifully and finished to the net. Ethan Monaghan came into defence to provide fresh legs and give Conor Egan a well deserved rest. Frank Dunne made way for Eoghan Burke who was redeployed up front. Almost immediately Eoghan nearly grabbed a goal but the keeper got a fingertip to it. Oisin was on hand to grab his second goal. Aaron Burke replaced Oisin Flannery in midfield. He lifted a ball over the top and Evan Molloy was quickest in the race between himself, the keeper and defender to poke the ball home for a well deserved goal. James Kilkenny’s hard work all day was rewarded with a goal as he thundered a shot to the top corner. With minutes to go Colga grabbed a consolation goal from their striker who pounced on a loose ball and finished to the net from the edge of the box. Girls U13 Championship: Renmore 4–2 Colemanstown. In a reversed fixture encounter, our U13 girls welcomed Renmore to Colemanstown on a cold, damp Sunday afternoon. This was the second meeting of the sides this season & also the girls’ first official outing under the floodlights. Colemanstown started brightly & with great intent. The midfield & attacking unit of Holly Mellody, Lauren O’Grady, Ruby Lally, Lucy Burke Hardiman, Faye Ryan & Ava Forde worked tirelessly from the off as they pressed high & moved the ball well. Their early dominance was rewarded on 10mins when Lucy Burke Hardiman struck a superb left footed effort to give Colemanstown a deserved lead & in so doing, she lifted the entire team. At the back, defenders Helia Costello, Aislinn Murray, Jade Devaney & Chloe Burke were rock solid for much of the first half as they dealt confidently with everything Renmore threw at them. Colemanstown doubled their advantage when Ava Forde reacted quickest after Lauren O’Grady’s free kick was parried by the Renmore keeper to poke home the rebound to make it 2–0. However, Renmore then found another gear & turned the game on its head with two quick goals in the space of 2mins. A third Renmore goal on 28mins meant the visitors went into the break with a 3–2 lead.

The second half saw the introduction of Kate Hynes & Realtín Saunders & the restart mirrored the intensity of the opening half, with two evenly matched sides battling hard all over the pitch. Ava Forde, Chloe Burke, Lucy Burke Hardiman & Lauren O’Grady were outstanding as they helped to drive the team forward immensely & refused to let heads drop. Renmore added a 4th goal in the 2nd half to seal the points, but not without a tremendous fight from Colemanstown. The match finished 4–2 to the visitors, though the spectators were treated to an exciting, end-to-end contest throughout. Well done to all the girls for a performance full of effort, teamwork & spirit. Ye enjoyed this one & as always, ye came & left with smiles regardless of the result.  Match Report: Ann Forde
