Wasteful ‘A’ Team share the spoils

Our A team put in a spirited performance but the goals failed to come as Colemanstown were wasteful and ineffective many times in front of goal. Early half chances by Conor Feeney, Ray Moran, Ritchie Lally & Paddy Mullins were wasted as Colemanstown completely dominated the early exchanges. Mervue had little to applaud in attack only for two half chances which dribbled wide. Colemanstown restarted the 2nd half as they finished the first and again, their dominance revealed nothing in terms of goals. Mervue made a few substitutes, reshuffled their team and thus came more into the game. Colemanstown’s wasteful play was finally punished on the stroke of 75mins after good work by Mervue in a one-two move which was finally finished by the striker who nipped in to beat the on-rushing Colemanstown keeper as the ball agonisingly found the net much to Alan Finn’s dismay. Quite how Mervue were still in the game by that point was a mystery. Gareth Lally had a half chance afterwards, again revealed nothing while subsequent Colemanstown pressure and a series of corners did not bring any reward. Manager Gerry Moran will demand a much improved display for the ‘A’ team’s next outing in the Connaught Cup next weekend. Meanwhile, we congratulate Garry & Deirdre O’ Grady, Tiaquin on the birth of their second baby daughter. The ladies soccer team will be at strength in years to come!
