U16 Boys: Colemanstown 3 – 1 St Pats: Championship / Div1 Cup semi final. In a thrilling U16 Boys Championship /Div 1 Cup semi-final, Colemanstown emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over St. Pats. The game was held in Colemanstown, with a great showing of support from both teams and a full compliment of match officials as the tone was quickly set for an evening that required most effort. The match kicked off with Colemanstown asserting their dominance early on. Within the first 15 minutes, winger Martin Mellody found the back of the net with a powerful shot, giving Colemanstown an early lead. St. Pats struggled to find their rhythm, but also came very close when a powerful long range effort hit the crossbar, that could have changed the dynamics of the game, but Colemanston kept control of the midfield area with Tom Holohan, Paddy Gavin and Tadhg Hart linking up greatly with Jamie Lally as the lads continued to put together very smooth moves and created chances eventually capitalising on St Pats defensive lapses. Midfielder Tom Holohan doubled the lead with a well-placed strike from just outside the box, making it 2-0 before halftime. Throughout the first half our back line were inspired and aided by the watchful eye of the official linesmen & continuously managed to trick St. Pats into an offside position with great work by James Somers, Padraig Fallon, Oisin Gavin and Fionn Proulx. In the second half St. Pats came out of the blocks with more determination and they pushed our lads on several occasions, drawing some great saves from Tommy Nutley. We had to ride our luck in the first 10 minutes but then we regained control of proceedings with our midfield continuing to play great football as they spread the play to the left and to the right. In one such play, Sean Keating found a superb goal from 25 yards; the St. Pats keeper could do nothing about it – a great goal and a commanding 3-0 lead. St. Pats managed to pull one back through a brilliant solo effort, but it was too late for them to claw back anything extra from the game as Colemanstown progressed to the final. Tired legs at the end meant fresh legs were required, with Jamie Cunniffe and Niall Robbison coming on for Jamie Lally and Sean Keating. Next up is a date in the final with Ballinasloe or Barna/ Furbo on May 07th……Boys U16 panel you can make anything happen as we look forward to a good evening out for the final.
