Girls U15 Div 1: Colemanstown 5 – 1 St. Bernards. Our U15 girls recorded an emphatic home win over local rivals St. Bernards on a beautiful sunny winter Sunday afternoon as they continue their strong run of form in the league. The opening exchanges were evenly contested until the deadlock was broke on 25mins through Julie Holohan who laid her marker immediately on her introduction when she latched onto a superb ball threaded through by Ruth Burke & coolly finished to give Colemanstown the lead. Despite further pressure, this solitary goal remained the difference between the sides at half time.
Just 5mins after the restart, the visitors equalised from a setpiece with a free kick which left Niamh Lally helpless in goal. Colemanstown’s response was swift though & within 5 mins they took the lead again. This time Shauna McDonagh set up Leah Hansberry who made no mistake in front of goal to restore the lead. Leah wasn’t done there though…10mins later she doubled her tally to claim her brace when she showed great composure to slot home after being set up by Emma Collins & left the Bernards keeper with no chance. With 10 mins to play right winger Maddie Rohan scored the first of her brace when she got on the end of a clever Muireann Roche pass at the edge of the box & still with some work to do showed tremendous skill & composure to finish from close range.
The final nail in the coffin arrived late on again through Maddie Rohan who won the ball in midfield, weaved through a number of players with the ball close to her feet, beat the defence & the onrushing keeper before tucking the ball nicely into the corner. It was an early birthday present for Maddie, with 2 goals in a commanding team performance; the perfect birthday present on such a memorable date – 11.11.11. There were strong performances all over the pitch. Young Niamh Lally in goal stepped up superbly from the U14 ranks, Grace Jordan & Ruth Burke were in commanding form at the back & with excellent support from Emma Collins, Grace Connolly & Julie Holohan as we look forward to our next league outing at home to Moyne Villa. Final score: Colemanstown 5-1 St. Bernards. Match Report: Niall Rohan.
Boys U15 Div 2: Colemanstown 5 -0 McDara. Our U15 lads continued their strong run of form with another impressive home win this weekend when they defeated Carraroe side McDara 5–0. It took a little while for the team to find their rhythm; perhaps a touch of complacency from the previous meeting but once they settled, the goals began to flow. The opener came on 20mins when Dermot Parker cut in from the left & fired a low shot across goal that slipped beyond the keeper. For a while, it looked like this might be the only goal before the break, but two more arrived in quick succession; just like Dublin buses! First Owen Hillary struck a superb volley from outside the box which left the keeper rooted to the spot. Moments later Owen Hillary himself turned provider when he set up Finian Walsh to make it 3–0 at half-time & give the lads a comfortable cushion.
The 2nd half saw a number of changes. Caelan Noone was introduced up front & quickly made an impact when he slotted home the 4th goal after great work from Dermot Parker on the wing. Owen Hillary then wrapped up the scoreline with his second of the day, sealing a 5–0 result. At the other end, Aidan Quinn produced an excellent late save to preserve the team’s first clean sheet of the season. It was a fine all round performance & a real squad effort from everyone involved. Next up is another home game, this time against Kinvara. Final score: Colemanstown 5-0 McDara Match Report: Alan Walsh
