U13 Boys Div2: Colemanstown 5 -2 Moyne Villa. On a cold Thursday evening in Colemanstown, our U13B boys hosted Moyne Villa B in a thrilling encounter that showcased excellent teamwork, determination, and some fantastic individual performances. We lined out with Avey Mahon in goal and opted for a five-man defence: James Flaherty, Eugene Kelly, Conor Finnerty, Senan Prolux, and Jamie Lally, who stepped into an unfamiliar role at right back. The midfield was made up of George Moore, Cathal Burns, Patrick Collins, & Oisín Kelly who was captain on the night, with James Vignoles leading the line up front. We started brightly, moving the ball well and putting Moyne Villa under pressure from the off. Two early corners, both taken superbly by James Vignoles, set the tone. In the 9th minute, Cathal Burns picked up the ball in midfield, weaved through the defence and calmly slotted home to give us the lead. Just two minutes later, Cathel had another powerful effort well saved. From the resulting corner, whipped in again by James Vignoles, Conor Finnerty rose highest to nod home and make it 2–0. We switched to a 4-4-2 formation, pushing Jamie Lally up front. Avey Mahon made a crucial save on 13 minutes to keep Moyne Villa at bay. On 17 minutes, after good work down the left, Patrick Collins received the ball on the edge of the box and thumped in a lovely goal to extend our lead to 3–0. Moyne Villa responded on 24 minutes with a well-taken free kick from outside the box. Avey Mahon got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out to make it 3–1 with Colemanstown firmly in charge. We continued to press, with Jamie Lally dragging a shot wide, Conor Finnerty forcing another save from a header, and James Vignoles testing the keeper before the break.
Half-time changes saw Jamie Lally and Eugene Kelly make way for Andrew Davoren and Iarla Thompson. Moyne Villa came out strong in the second half and put us under sustained pressure. Five minutes in, they scored another free kick from the edge of the box to make it 3–2. But just three minutes later, Andrew Davoren did brilliantly to tee up Oisín Kelly, who restored our two-goal cushion with a composed finish at 4–2. With over 20 minutes to go, Moyne Villa kept pushing, but Cathal Burns and Patrick Collins were everywhere, breaking up play and denying the visitors time to settle. James Vignoles had a great chance to extend the lead but snatched at the shot. Midway through the second half, Niall Kane and Igor Zidek came on for James Vignoles and George Moore. Jamie Lally re-entered the fray with 10 minutes to go, replacing Andrew Davoren. With five minutes left, Oisín Kelly received the ball on the left and unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box, which crashed in off the crossbar to make it 5–2. Patrick Collins and Oisín Kelly, who had run their socks off, made way for George Moore and James Vignoles to help see out the game. Final score: 5–2. It was a fantastic result and a well-deserved win. The boys showed great passing and movement, excellent defending, and a brilliant attitude throughout. Plenty to be proud of! Men’s Div 1: Colemanstown 6-0 West Utd Under our Friday night lights, Colemanstown’s Junior Men’s team produced a commanding display to sweep aside West Utd with a resounding 6–0 victory in their latest league encounter. From the off, Colemanstown were in control, sharp in attack, disciplined at the back & full of confidence across the pitch. Kevin Barrett opened the scoring with the first of his two goals, when he finished neatly after connecting with a perfectly whipped cross from Jamsie Collevy on the left. Ray Moran, in fine scoring form of late, doubled the lead soon after with a superb solo effort as he beat several defenders before unleashing a stunning 20-yard strike beyond the keeper. Mossy Carr then added to the tally with our 3rd when he cut in from the right before hammering home. He wasn’t finished there, as soon after he grabbed his second of the night & the team’s fourth after slick interplay between Tomas Flannery & Jamsie Collevy which ended with a pinpoint Jonah Donnellan cross that Mossy expertly finished. Kevin Barrett then rounded off a dominant first half performance with a superb header when he got on the end of a Shane Duffy overlap & cross to make it 5–0 at the break; a half that showcased Colemanstown at their clinical best.
The second half saw a few well-earned changes. Kerrill Hardiman slotted into centre-half for the tireless Richie Lally, Jack Dillon replaced Shane Duffy at right back & David Walsh came in at left back for Jamsie Collevy. Cavin Attwood & Damo Wynne were also introduced & injected fresh legs & even more energy into an already dominant side. The scoring was completed by Tomas Flannery, who broke through the defence & finished coolly in a one-on-one with the keeper to make it six. At the other end, Alan “Junior” Finn was rock solid, dealing confidently with everything that came his way to preserve another clean sheet as Colemanstown fired on all cylinders on this Friday night occasion & finished emphatic 6-0 winners. U13 Boys Championship 2: Colemanstown Utd A 1- 3 Knocknacarra. It was a crisp autumn Saturday morning in Colemanstown as our U13s lined out full of energy and determination to take on a strong Knocknacarra side. The game was played in great spirit, with plenty of effort, teamwork, and skill on show from both teams. Colemanstown started brightly, with midfielders Evan Molloy, James Kilkenny, Jack Grealish, and Frank Dunne linking up well and pressing high. Up front, Sé Laffey looked lively from the start and came close to opening the scoring on 25 minutes when his powerful shot was well saved by the Knocknacarra keeper. At the back, Aaron Burke, Conor Egan, Eoghan O’Neill, and Mark Shaughnessy held their shape well, with Pheilim Flynn in goals pulling off a number of smart stops to keep Colemanstown in the game. Despite the solid defending, Knocknacarra took the lead after 20 minutes and doubled their advantage midway through the second half, adding a third at the 50-minute mark. But our lads never gave up. George Costello, who floated superbly between defence and midfield, began to drive the team forward. The pressure finally paid off when Frank Dunne found space at the edge of the box and coolly slotted home on 60 minutes — a well-deserved reward for his tireless work in midfield. Substitutes Kerrill Walsh, Ethan Monaghan, and Eoghan Burke brought fresh legs and continued to push until the final whistle. The match finished 3–1 to Knocknacarra, but there was plenty to be proud of — great teamwork, solid defending, and a never-say-die attitude from every player in green. Well done to all the lads and coaches for a spirited display — the effort, attitude, and improvement are plain to see each week! Match Report: Ronan Laffey
U15 Boys Div 2: MacDara 2 – 6 Colemanstown. Our U15 boys made the long trip to Carraroe on Saturday with just the bare 11 players available but certainly what they lacked in numbers, they more than made up for in spirit, determination & football quality. The lads put in a superb team performance to secure a convincing 6–2 victory over MacDara. The returning Dermot Parker marked his comeback in style, netting a brilliant hat-trick & leading the line with energy, composure & clinically. He was well supported by David Barrett, Owen Hillary & Finian Walsh, who each added a goal of their own to round off an excellent attacking display. Despite the lack of subs on the day, every player dug deep & displayed great discipline, teamwork & resilience throughout. The result was no more than they deserved for their commitment & attitude on a day when there was no room for even the slightest injury. A superb performance with a well earned 3 points!
