U14 Girls brave fight against Oughterard

Although our U14 Girls lost 2-0 to Oughterard on a lovely Winter Sunday morning, they were fierce competitive & put in a huge shift overall. For the first 20mins of the game Oughterard were camped in our half with relentless pressure from the outset.  Lucy Butler in goals was top class, pulling off a string of super saves and inspiring confidence in her teammates, while our defence line of Grace Roche, Aisling Ruane, Leah O’Connor & Grace Connolly dealt superbly with the pressure and displayed some powerful tackling. In that period the hosts netted their all important 2 goals. Colemanstown soon settled into the game though with numerous shots on goal from Rachel Kennedy, Chloe Flynn, Lillie Kirby, Roisin Ruane & Roisin O’Dea but were unable to find the net. Chloe Flynn had a number of good runs & individual efforts but unable to find that final killer instinct as Tia Loughnane linked up well with the strike force.

The 2nd half saw a number of changes with Ruby Lynch taking up the custodians spot; Eimear Schwitalla & Liliana King up front, Niamh Naughton was introduced in backs while Shauna McDonagh & Emily Rohan ran the midfield area. With the changes came a series of 2nd half goal efforts from Liliana King, Emily Rohan, Lillie Kirby, Eimear Schwitalla & Chloe Flynn but a seriously resolute Oughterard defence who were well set up, stood in the way. Despite the best efforts from Colemanstown, there was just no way through the superb Oughterard defence. It ended Oughterard 2 -0 Colemanstown .

Despite the loss, the beaming smiles continued amongst this wonderful bunch of girls. Many thanks to Michelle Doyle & Company and to all the mums and dads who made the long spin to Oughterard to cheer the team on.
