Colemanstown U13s 0 – 4 West Coast Utd
It’s always a tough task having to make the long trip to Letterfrack to take on West Coast Utd but to head to Claddaghduff is even that bit further. Hopping straight off a bus to play a match was more of a mountain for our U13s than a bump in the road. However, although conceding two early goals, these young lads never once gave up and displayed a performance that they should be very proud of. The difference between the 2 teams: West Coast took their chances, whereas Colemanstown couldn’t finish theirs.

There was some great distribution of the ball on show, as well as some magnificent 2nd half saves by Tommy Nutley in goal, which paves a very exciting future between the posts for young Nutley. There was some tough tackling from Michael Lally, Conor Keating, Stephen Murphy and Tadhg Bardell as they disrupted the hosts attacking rhythm and together with Noah McDonnell, Harry Tierney, Daren Quirke & Fionn Proulx they ensured that Colemanstown could launch some counter attacks.

Up front, tireless running from Martin Mellody, Tom Holohan & Tadhg Hart helped to work space in attack as they created many openings. Tadhg Hart saw his free kick thunder off the cross bar late in the first half; another effort of his sailed over the crossbar while the keeper made a fine stop with a further effort. 2-0 half time.

The hosts scored within 10 mins of the restart making it an uphill battle for the boys in green while their 4th arrived following a defensive mix up from a corner. Tadhg Hart had 2 further 2nd half chances as did Martin Mellody but try as they might the ball just wouldn’t go in on a frustrating afternoon.

There’s still plenty of positives to consider for the rest of the season and an enjoyable bus trip home was had by all on board.

Squad: Tommy Nutley, Conor Keating, Stephen Murphy, Michael Lally, Tadhg Bardell, Noah McDonnell, Harry Tierney, Darren Quirke, Fionn Proulx, Martin Mellody, Tadhg Hart, Tom Holohan, Aidan Ruane, Joe Carroll (injured).

Colemanstown U14Bs 4 – 5 Maree/ Oranmore
Our U14B team travelled to Oranmore last Thursday evening for this re-arranged league fixture against Oranmore/Maree in ideal football conditions. The lads & lassies were aiming for their first win of the season and got off to the perfect start with a goal from Francis Weldon after 5 mins. 2 mins later Colemanstown found themselves 2 níl up from a Tadhg Hart penalty. At this stage, Colemanstown were cruising with chance after chance from Aaron Lindsay Bane,Tyler Collins & Francis Weldon. These missed chances were to cost the game in the end.

Oranmore scored late in the first half to make it 2-1 at half time. This seemed to spur Oranmore/Maree on.

It was hoped a quick chat and a few jaffa  cakes would get the team reved up for the second half but Oranmore/Maree had other ideas. They came out all guns blazing and had turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4- 2 lead after 10 mins of the restart – their jaffa cakes were better than ours or maybe their half time team talk. Colemanstown pulled another goal back from Tommie Muldoon with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box following a well worked corner aided by duo Tadhg Hart and Libby Kennedy. Oranmore added to their scoring tally from the penalty spot and a well worked team  goal to make it make it 5-3. Tadhg Hart got a late consolation goal to make it 5-4 to Oranmore/Maree.

This was a very entertaining game from start to finish with good football and some outstanding displays on show. Well done to Dylan King in goal who pulled off some great saves and was unlucky not to save the penalty. Overall, this game was what could have been. Unfortunately our wait continues for our first league win. Thank you to the parents for their support & here’s hoping we will secure our first league win soon. Match report by Declan Greaney.

Squad: Dylan King, Sean Keating, Lucy Roberts, Tyler Collins, Niall Grady, Tommie Muldoon, Libby Kennedy, Tadhg Hart, James Somers, Francis Muldoon, Aaron Lindsay Bane, Niamh Kennedy
