U13’s creep up the table!

Our U13’s travelled to Cappagh Park this evening led by birthday boy, captain Michael Concannon to take on Knocknacarra in their latest league match. It was a smashing sunshiny evening for a soccer match and the result was equally as smashing. This was a major test but our lads reasserted their grip on the game buoyed up by a steady defence of Anthony Feeney, Sean Hansberry, Michael Ryan & Liam Gormally. Knocknacarra probably started the better team, missing two good chances as it took Colemanstown a while to settle. Ryan Noone fired us in front on the quarter hour mark in our first real chance in the game. Conor Moran curled his free kick into the box but Ryan Noone’s first attempt at goal was well stopped but he made no mistake with the rebound as the ball fell kindly for him. 2mins later in the ensuing play Eoin Concannon worked the ball down the right side of the field and cut in along the edge of the box and slotted a superb effort into the far corner to great jubilation. The remainder of the 1st half play was played out predominantly in the middle third of the field with chances a few for both sides. 2-0 half time. 5 mins after the restart Ryan Noone missed a great chance to make it 3-0 with just the keeper to beat but he flashed the ball across the box. Knocknacarra then scored a breakaway goal as their nippy striker won the ball well and his shot from 18yards left Jason Connolly with no chance in goals. Ryan Noone had another effort which clipped off the crossbar. Knocknacarra pressurised in search of the equaliser but it didn’t really amount to much.  Luke Lally scored a great goal before the end but he was adjudged to be off-side. This was a glossy 2-1 result for our lads who have a bit of catch-up to play over Easter, given that they are a few games behind. These lads are in action again on Tuesday evening when they play Corofin away at 6.30pm.

Our B team match tomorrow is cancelled due to the Republic of Ireland legends game in Eamon Deacy Park which promises to be a great afternoon out. Our reserves are home to West Utd at 2pm tomorrow while our A team play Loughrea at home on Sunday at 11am.
