Colemanstown United U13 Girls 1 – 1 Craughwell United. Div1 . Colemanstowns U13 girls welcomed top of the table side Craughwell United early on Sunday morning. Nothing separated the sides when they played out a 4-4 draw in Craughwell earlier in the season so another close battle was on the cards. True to form Craughwell dominated the early exchanges with Colemanstown finding it hard to get on the ball. With the game being played at a frantic pace Craughwell were camped in the Colemanstown half but never really threatened Lucy Butler’s goal. This was mainly down to some trojan defending from our captain on the day Grace Connolly, Kate Mitchell, Tia Loughnane and Niamh Naughton. Lucy Butler’s missile-like kickouts provided chances for Ailbhe Burke and Evelyn McDonnell up front flanked by Emily and Maddie Rohan in midfield.
Scoreless at halftime, this game looked like a goal would win it for either side. A handball in the box resulted in a penalty for the away side 10 minutes into the second half but they couldn’t capitalise with the ball coming off the underside of the crossbar into Lucy Butler’s safe hands. This shift in momentum saw the Colemanstown girls gain confidence with Emma Collins and Shauna McDonagh causing trouble down the wings. Muireann Roche was solid throughout breaking down Craughwell attacks in the middle of the pitch.
It was still all to play for with 15 minutes remaining. Fresh legs were introduced with Lisa Curran, Tara Dillon, Ciara Mulhall and Aoife Morris coming off the bench to help the cause. With 10 minutes remaining an almost identical handball in the Craughwell box led to Emily Rohan blasting past the keeper from the spot. A home victory looked on the cards but Craughwell weren’t having it. With time almost up, a loose ball fell to their midfielder who expertly found the net from 20 yards out. This was a fantastic game played in good spirits with some great skills on show from both sides. Match report by Niall Rohan
