U12A & U12B Girls Latest League Matches

Colemanstown U12A Girls 0 – 3 Moyne Villa

Colemanstown was the scene for our U12A side who went down 3-0 but battled hard to a more seasoned Moyne Villa outfit last weekend. Fielding without regular keeper Lily Burke; Aoife Mulcahy & Kayla Maloney between them weren’t shy in assuming the keepers role. It was 1-0 to the Headford side at half time in a back and forth contest. In the 2nd half, Ava Forde was unlucky with two chances, which whizzed past either post. Moyne Villa capitalised from two kick outs to score their 2nd & their 3rd which came with 5 mins to play as Colemanstown were not set up too well defensively for the kick outs. Kate Geary was tremendous all through with a superior work rate while Niamh Lally was a stand out player in defence.  Try as they might and despite their best efforts, they were unable to find the net. 0-3 it finished to Moyne Villa in Colemanstown.  The Colemanstown girls will learn from this as they bid to bounce back before taking on big guns Westport on home turf on Sunday in the SFAI Girls Cup.

Squad: Aoife Mulcahy, Kayla Maloney, Kate Geary, Sorcha Nic an Iomaire, Ciara Somers, Niamh Lally, Laura Hayes, Lauryn Murphy, Siana O’Grady, Laoise Maybin, Mia Corcoran, Amy Morrissey, Ava Forde.

Colemanstown U12B Girls 0- 0 Renmore Div2

This might sound a little boring – 0-0 stalemate and many readers might prefer the exciting goal feasts that we normally hear about in our league matches. But in fact this was a game that had everything…. the ball was up and down the field, 2 super keepers at either end, most notably our Emily Tuohy who made some super dramatic saves; last ditch tackles; incredible workrate from everyone in a green jersey; the ball thundering off the woodwork, and a pure energy sapping contest from first to last minute. This was a game as pulsating and captivating as any other as each side took it in breathless turns to test the other. The game was played in such a sporting nature that both coaches turned to each other with 10mins to go, silently willing the ref to blow for full time. No one deserved to lose this game & no one did!

Emily Tuohy in goal made some top drawer saves…. with her hands, her feet, her body … diving, ground saves, top corner saves … a bit of everything. Aislinn Murray at centre back was tremendous as she thwarted many Renmore attacks flanked by Eimear Flynn, Jade Devaney & Grace Flynn who between them covered every blade of grass in Renmore. Julie Holohan & Aoife Flynn pulled all the chords in midfield as together they engineered many moves while young Holly Mellody on the right wing emulated her older siblings with phenomenal running & huge workrate. Ruby Lally up front, created a few chances but was met by a keeper on top of her game. At one stage she found herself one-on-one with the keeper but couldn’t find that all elusive goal. Erin Holmes & Aine Connolly added extra energy in the midfield area in an energy sapping game while Aoibh Connolly & Eve Corcoran brought fresh kegs when required most.

The game finished 0-0 but it was certainly a game that encapsulated the full on nature of this encounter.  It was as simple as: if you blinked, you missed something. Well done to both teams on serving up such a splendid exciting game.
