U12 Girls lose to a strong Colga side in Conn Cup; U12 Boys comprehensive league win

Colga 5  –  1 Colemanstown U12 Girls
Our U12 girls were up against a strong Colga side who compete in the U12 Premier League, played at home yesterday morning in the 2nd round of the Connacht Cup. Throughout the match our goal keeper Lucy Butler was under a lot of pressure and pulled off some great saves once again. Our back line Tia Loughlane, Emma Collins and Grace Connolly showed great determination and put in some great challenges and clearances.  Shauna McDonagh, Kate Geary, Maddie Rohan and Tara Dillon put in some great runs in midfield .  Our forwards in the first half were Ailbhe Burke and Niamh Lally who really tried their best to create chances on goal.  Even after all the girls efforts, the first half finished with Colga breaking for half time 4-0 up.

A reshuffle of the team in the 2nd half saw Aoife Walsh, Niamh Naughton and Evie Cunniffe introduced in defense. These girls showed great determination in keeping the Colga forwards at bay. Muireann Roche and Aoife Morris were introduced to midfield and created some great passes to the strikeforce Emily Rohan and Ciara Somers who worked very well together. Midway through the second half following some great passing the ball landed at the foot of Niamh Lally who scored a mighty goal.

The game finished on a score of 5 – 1 to Colga as we wish Colga the best of luck in the next round of the Connacht Cup.  Match report by Elaine Walsh

U12 Boys comprehensive league win over Galway Hibs
Our U12 boys took on Galway Hibs at home in the second league game of the season on Saturday morning.  The game started strong for the U12 boys and within the first few minutes had their first goal scored. The strong back line of Dermot Parker, Daragh Blake and Odhran Madden left very little work for keeper Adam Kenny to do. Most of the play was in the visitors side with midfielders Daniel Ruane, David Barret and Keelyn Kirby on top form feeding ball after ball into Owen Hillary and Scott O’ Donoghue up front. At this stage of the game the boys had a chance to display some of the many skills they had learned at training while adding some serious scores to the scoreboard. Half time and the boys had a few sweets to keep their energy levels up and a chat with manager Alan. A few changes were made with Darragh Finnerty, Mikey Nutley, Finian Walsh, Liam O Connor and Gearoid Griffin being introduced. The boys got straight into the action and even had a few shots on goal. A free was given to the visitors and they finally got their chance at a shot on goal. They capitalised on this chance and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. The Colemanstown boys dominated this game from start to finish with their skill and scoring ability with a comprehensive win.  Match report by Ita Kenny
