U12 Boys advance in SFAI Cup while U13A Boys battle bravely in League

U12 Boys SFAI Cup: Colemanstown 5 – 2 Renmore.  Colemanstown welcomed Renmore for the first round of the Boys U12 SFAI Cup game on Monday 13th October for a 6.30pm kick off under lights.  It was a dry, calm night, perfect conditions for the game.  From the kick off Colemanstown were in attaching mode and created a lot of early chances but could not convert.  Renmore also created some chances mainly on the breakdown and only for a great save from our stand in goalie and captain on the night James Vignoles they would have taken the lead.  Eventually we got the first goal when a long range effort from Conor Finnerty hit the roof of the net despite best efforts from the Renmore goalie who got a hand to it but could not keep it out.  The first half ended 1 – 0 and we were hoping we would not regret all the missed chances.

The second half started perfectly and we worked some slick passing from the kick off through the heart of the Renmore defence and Conor Finnerty got on the end of the move to convert low and hard to the bottom corner.  2 – 0 up and we hoped to push on but Renmore had other ideas.  They took control of the game for the next ten minutes and worked some great passing moves which they converted into two quick goals without reply.  Colemanstown emptied the bench and Eugene Kelly came on in backs for Igor Ziolek, Charlie Hutchings replaced Riley O’Donoghue on the wing, Nathan Cleary and Martin Flemming replaced Oisin Kelly and Patrick Collins up front and Kayden Brett also joined the attach later on.  The game ebbed and flowed from end to end with both teams pushing hard to take the lead.  Eventually Cathal Burns found himself in some space in the middle and he converted a shot low and hard to the net after previously being unlucky to hit the crossbar.  Riley O’Donoghue got on the end of a cross and headed accurately to the roof of the net before Nathan Cleary removed any doubt from the result when he connected with a long ball through their defence and finished sharply to the bottom corner.  At 5 – 2 up, we held on for a great win.  It was an intense battle for most of the game and both teams were evenly matched, but thankfully Colemanstown were more clinical up front of goal in the second half and converted our chances.  Hard luck to Renmore as we look forward to the next round of the SFAI cup. Match Report: Peter Kelly

U13 boys Championship 2: Salthill Devon B 3 – 1 Colemanstown Utd A. Our U13A squad had a quick turnaround of fixtures from the weekend and were back in league action last night with a trip across Galway City to Drom to face Salthill Devon. The same starting 11 as Saturdays match took to the field to start. Salthill started well and kept our defensive line of Aaron Burke, Ethan Monaghan, Chris Burke, George Costello and Matt Feeney busy. The boys were holding their own against a lively home attack. Phelim Flynn between the posts was sharp to deal with a few through balls. Frank Dunne was getting on plenty of ball but the final passes were going slightly astray. Evan Molloy and Jack Grealish were working hard on the wings while Mark Shaughnessy was holding the centre mid role and trying to get a few attacks going. The deadlock was broken after 17 mins when an unfortunate blocked clearance spun upwards and towards the goal over the helpless Phelim Flynn to give Devon a lucky lead. The boys responded well and a nice move involving Sé Laffey up top, James Kilkenny who had replaced Mark and Evan resulted in a corner kick. Evan Molloy swung in a perfect corner which the keeper parried and Frank Dunne was quickest to pounce and grab the equaliser. This goal spurred the boys on and they began to enjoy some possession and pinned the hosts into their own half. A few half chances were created but we couldn’t find the net. Salthill broke up one of our attacks and went on a counter attack which our defence stopped but the ball spilled out to their inrushing midfielder who drove the ball high into the roof of the net. It was a devastating blow coming up to half time. Half time score: Salthill Devon 2 Colemanstown Utd 1

Kerrill Walsh replaced Phelim Flynn in goals at half time while Eoghan Burke and Conor Egan replaced Aaron and Chris. Salthill were quickest off the blocks after the restart and put us under pressure early creating a few half chances which our defence and Kerrill Walsh were able to deal with. The pressure eventually took its toll as Salthill moved the ball across the edge of the box, a half chance opened up to hit a long range effort. Our lads couldn’t get out quick enough to get a block in and the effort found its way high into the net. Eoghan O’Neill replaced Ethan as we pushed up on the hosts and to their credit the lads dominated the final 15 mins but couldn’t find the net despite numerous chances created. Final score from Drom.
