Time ran out for U13’s in first league game loss of season

Sometimes the outcome of a game does not reflect the effort put in and that was evident today when our U13’s lost 3-2 to Barna/Furbo in Furbo in their first game of the new season.  Playing against a strong breeze in the first half Colemanstown were offered some early chances. Sean Hansberry found himself one-on-one with the keeper but the keeper saved well. Then Josh McGuire Greaney made a nice run down the right wing before being fouled while Conor Moran’s resultant free kick hit the post while Ryan Noone was wide with the rebound. Then on 16mins, Furbo broke the deadlock with a well taken goal which debutant keeper Jason Connolly could do little about. At this stage young Anthony Feeney was introduced and on 20mins Colemanstown made it 1-1 as Sean Hansberry lined up for a penalty which he zoomed past the keeper after Josh McGuire Greaney was taken clean out of it when he attempted to connect to a perfectly taken corner from Ryan Noone. The sides continued to battle it out before half time but it was the home side who scored with seconds to go before the break as our defence were slow to clear a bouncing ball in the box. The second half saw Barna/Furbo dominate proceedings for the first 10minutes as Colemanstown custodian Jason Connolly was called into action on numerous occasions thwarting many attempts at goal and was superb under high ball. Conor Moran then scored on the break as he broke from midfield, swiftly ran through the defence and scored a low hard cracker to make it 2-2. It was no more than we deserved. With 7 mins to go Barna/Furbo scored with a shot from outside the box much to the dismay of the Colemanstown lads. For the remainder of the game, Colemanstown had the momentum  and pressed hard for the equaliser. Jamie Hession found himself through on goal but the keeper saved while Conor Moran’s picture perfect free kick tumbled off the crossbar. Sean Hansberry had the last chance but his effort was driven over the bar as time ticked away quickly and Colemanstown unfortunately had no more luck. It was a good team effort with  Jason Connolly in goal, Liam Molloy at left back, Luke Lally at left back, Michael Ryan at central midfield, Daragh Diskin & Artur Nikulins all making their debuts for the club. Conor Moran was superb as was Ryan Noone on the right wing while Darragh Hansberry at centre back and Sean Hansberry in central midfield tried hardest.  At least this game will have knocked the cobwebs off these lads and they should be more prepared for their next game at home to Knocknacarra in 2 weeks time.  Our severely depleted B team also had a bad day at home to Craughwell  United losing 7-1. Sean Walsh scored the sole Colemnastown goal notching his 4th goal of the season.
