U12 Boys Championship 2. Colemanstown Utd FC A: 2 – 0 Mervue Utd B. Our U12 boys took on Mervue Utd B on Saturday afternoon in Colemanstown in perfect conditions for football. The Colemanstown boys settled well and started to dominate possession with some excellent football and movement. Goals however were very hard to come by as both defences were on top. Our starting back 3 of Aaron Burke, Conor Egan and Ethan Monaghan were comfortable both in and out of possession. Phelim Flynn in goals was excellent and made some very good decisions in his movements coming off his line to claim the visitors through balls. Frank Dunne was causing all sorts of havoc on the left flank while Oisin Flannery and a deep lying James Kilkenny got through a huge amount of work in the engine room. Se Laffey on the right side of midfield was also pushing on at every opportunity and Se had the ball in the net on 20 minutes only to be ruled offside very harsly. Jack Grealish playing as the lone striker was keeping the Mervue defence busy with great movement across the line. Chris Burke and Eoghan O’Neill came on to replace Aaron Burke and Jack Grealish to give fresh legs and both settled in well. Mark Shaughnessy came on for James Kilkenny and made an immediate impact with a beautiful through ball which Frank Dunne slotted neatly past the advancing keeper right on the stroke of half time. 1-0 at half time and a big 2nd half to come. We were made to wait for the resumption of play as the referee had to finish his half time fresh coffee from our coffee dock ÚR. Matt Feeney, George Moore and Jamie Lally came on at half time. The boys got a quick awakening after 5 minutes when Mervue hit the crossbar and luckily the ball was scrambled away to safety. This sparked life back into the team and they started to keep possession nicely and created a few half chances for Jamie Lally, George Moore and Jack but the second goal cushion wasn’t looking likely. Mervue continued to push for an equaliser but Phelim Flynn was in fine form and made some fine saves to keep us in front. With only minutes to go we were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. James Kilkenny fired a superb free kick towards the keepers top right corner only for it to clip the post and bounce back into the 6 yard box. The quickest reaction was from Se Laffey who blasted the ball to the net and so ensured the win and 3 points to drag this squad further up the league table.  Match Report: Adrian Burke.
