U13 Girls Championship: Colemanstown 0 -1 Oughterard. We welcomed Oughterard to Colemanstown on Saturday afternoon for the latest round of the U13 Girls Championship. Fielding a very young side with just 12 players available; only three of whom were of the designated age grade, yet our girls put in a tremendous performance full of heart, determination, & skill. Both sides started well & created plenty of attacking opportunities in an evenly contested opening half. The standard of goalkeeping at either end was outstanding, particularly from Emily Tuohy who was top class between the posts for Colemanstown, pulling off a series of superb saves to keep the sides level. In front of her, Chloe Burke, Aislinn Murray, Realtín Saunders & Ciara Maybin formed a solid & disciplined defensive line as they worked tirelessly to repel wave after wave of attack. Across midfield, Holly Mellody, Lucy Burke Hardiman, Emily Hynes & Lauren O’Grady covered every blade of grass as they linked with defence & attack with some excellent passing & relentless work rate. Up front, Ella Kavanagh & Ava Forde combined well & posed a constant threat. Ava was particularly unlucky not to find the net, getting a few fine shots on target, only to be denied by a strong Oughterard keeper. Kate Hynes was introduced just before the interval, adding fresh energy as the sides went in level at 0-0 after a highly competitive 1st half.

The 2nd half was just as intense & exciting as the first, with both teams continuing to create chances. Oughterard struck in the 13th minute of the half to edge ahead, but the Colemanstown girls never dropped their heads. They battled bravely right to the final whistle, spurred on by tremendous support from the sidelines. In the end, that solitary goal proved decisive as the game finished 1-0 to Oughterard; a result that certainly did not reflect the balance of this thrilling encounter.  Match Report: Ann Forde
