Quirky Awards amongst ladies celebrations

On Saturday night our 2013 victorious ladies Div1 league winners held a memorable presentation night in Burke’s to celebrate their fantastic first year in Galway league football. Director of Football Gerry Moran presented the ladies with their Division 1 league winner’s medals and awards for ‘Player of the Year’, ‘Most Improved Player’ and ‘Golden boot award’. Player of the Year went to the mighty Catherine Burke who has been a huge player and goal scorer for Colemanstown over the years and is still going strong netting 15 goals in last year’s playing season. Just edging out on top with a goal to spare over Catherine was top goal scorer and Golden Boot winner Tessa Mullins. MC on the night Kara Mullins commented on her sister’s goal scoring form, scoring a number of hatricks and goals with both left and right boots. The’ Most Improved Player’ award went to Anita Murphy who had just taken up soccer for the first time last year. Her commitment and constant improvement from coming off the bench mid-season to putting in a massive display in a very important Connacht cup game made this decision very easy for management. A number of certificates were also presented on the night by manager Kara Mullins for other ‘wacky’ achievements throughout the season such as ‘Best crunching tackle’ Ciara McMenamy, ‘Most embarrassing Moment’ Shauna Ward, ‘Worst excuse for not going to Training’ Trish Burke, (Molly is the best minded dog in town!) ‘Best Long Shot Award’ Orla McCaffrey, ‘Most skillful player’ went to ‘The Dazzler’ aka Trisha Kelly for her lightening quick feet, twisting and tormenting defences and the odd shake of the head. ‘Most versatile player’ was shared between, Alicia Flannery and Lorraine Lally. ‘Team Leadership award’ went to Sinead Cosgrave, Paula Kelly and Orla McCaffrey. ‘Best Attendance at training Awards’ went to Natasha Finn, Nicola Finn, Ciara McMenamy, Grainne Casserly and Kath Carr. ‘Goal of the Season’ went to Tessa Mullins for her ‘Bend it like Beckham’ free kick vs St. Bernards F.C.  ‘Best hat-trick of the season’ went to Ashling Kelly for her emphatic performance vs rivals St. Bernards. ‘Best Cheerer Award’ was presented to Claire Mullins for constantly roaring her lungs off  “Hon The Town”. ‘Best Soccer Accessory’ went to Denise Costello for wearing her handbag throughout the team warm up vs Tuam Celtic, possibly because she was in Tuam! ‘In the Wrong Sport Award’ went to Roisin Burke for her outstanding performance in a rugby type warm up at training one evening. ‘Most excuses for not coming to training’ went to Linda Mannion for not only the most original of excuses but then getting caught rotten by the Manager ducking in the car passing Burke’s one day immediately following training. ‘Most foul throws’ went to Niamh Ryan for being so consistent in foul throws no matter how many times she was showed how to do it correctly. Finally the ‘Colemanstown swim team’ included Eavan McDonagh, Sandra Flannery, Trish Burke and Ciara McMenamy who had to wear a swimming hat for a whole training session because they embarrassed themselves at training the week before.  Following the presentations, team captain Paula Kelly presented Kara Mullins with a token of appreciation as they ended the presentation ceremony with a great 10-minute slideshow in memory of the magic moments of 2013. Thanks to DJ Martin Anderson who played well into the night, Frank and Bernie Burke for the venue and lovely finger food supplied and thanks to Kara Mullins who was the brains behind the night and quirky award titles. Ladies team continue training Wednesday nights at 7:30pm and play their first friendly of 2014 vs Mervue United on Sun. 2nd February at 2pm in Mervue as they prepare for life in the Premier league under the guidance of the mighty Kara Mullins.
