U14 Boys Division 3 – Colemanstown 3-8 West Coast Utd. Our U14 boys kicked off their league campaign at home to a strong West Coast Utd side who made the long trip to Colemanstown on Saturday. The visitors started brightly, opening the scoring after just 10mins & quickly adding a second from a corner. Colemanstown responded well & reduced the deficit through a superb team move starting from defence as Caelan Noone found Mark Shaughnessy on the wing, who linked with Sean Forde. Forde unleashed an unstoppable 30-yard strike that nestled into the top corner. West Coast however, replied with 2 more goals before Colemanstown pulled one back. Tim Ruane’s determined run down the right ended with him being fouled in the box & Ritchie O’Connor coolly converted the resulting penalty to make it 2-4 at the break. The 2nd half began with West Coast Utd in full control, netting 3 quick goals without reply. Colemanstown struck again when Sean Forde’s mazy run into the box earned a second penalty, which he confidently dispatched. West Coast finished the stronger, adding another to run out emphatic 8-3 winners. Despite the tough result, there were plenty of positives for Colemanstown to build on in their first league outing. U16 Girls Division 1 – St Bernard’s 7-2 Colemanstown. Our U16 girls faced a tough away opener against local rivals St Bernard’s midweek. Colemanstown held firm for the opening 15 minutes before the hosts hit a flurry of goals. Rachel Kennedy pulled one back with our first goal of the season & Maddie Rohan added a second, but St Bernard’s proved too strong & claimed a 7-2 win.
U16 Girls Division 1 – Colemanstown 1-7 East Galway Utd. In their 2nd league game at the weekend, a depleted Colemanstown squad hosted East Galway Utd. The visitors played a composed passing game & came away with a 7-1 win – our goal coming through the boot of Maddie Rohan. Colemanstown battled bravely with stand-in keepers Grace Connolly & Emma Collins doing their best under pressure. Although it was another tough result, these young players will take plenty of valuable lessons from the experience as they continue their development.
