No joy for U15’s in Cup Final

Colemanstown 1; Hibs/Foyle 5

Even though the score may suggest otherwise it was far from a miserable afternoon in Colemanstown! Although our young u15 side held high hopes of winning this Divisional Cup Final, they were outplayed by a far superior Hibs/Foyle side who were only demoted from the premier league last season and are currently fighting at large to re-gain promotion to top flight football again this season.

The gulf in class was evident from the start when Colemanstown found themselves 2-nil down after 10mins. To give our lads credit though, Colemanstown didn’t hang their heads, they were industrious, tried hard and at times they endeavoured to take the play to Hibs/Foyle. Lee Murphy, Paul Lally, Keith Murphy & Dylan Kelly were exceptional and tried hard to break down a resolute Hibs side. Hibs got 1 more before the break to make it 3-nil at half time. Colemanstown came out fighting in the 2nd half and took the game better to the city side but again found themselves conceeding another early 2nd half goal before Paul Lally took his effort well and sparked what seemed like a fightback. Hibs/Foyle, however, quickly imposed the upper hand again to finish a well deserved 5-1 win to them on the day.

Our youngsters, parents, supporters and management as a whole relished the day in the newly renamed Eamon Deacy Park, Terryland. Although there is no silverware to show, it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon when Bobby Masterson joined his players in a huddle in the aftermath in a symbol of their togetherness and camaraderie and Cian O’Toole’s baking skills would have won any prize. After all this team have been awesome to date this season and have given us great enjoyment. Photos are now uploaded in our gallery.

Winners of the raffle on the day were: Cathy Carroll, Grallagh, Menlough; Francis Carr, Esker, Castleblakney; PJ Finnerty, Colemanstown; Denis Dinween, c/o Renault, Galway; Maureen O Malley, Ballinasloe; Lorraine Lally, Ballymacward
