Footgolf – Fairway Hills are Steep!

The transformation work is almost complete on the field adjacent to Colemanstown United clubhouse or as it’s know locally the field across from Burke’s and is now resembling a class golfing green. A few years back there was great controversy in Kerry re: the ‘dung catchers’ or ‘horse nappies’ and I believe  Frank Burke was put under great pressure to ensure that the Footgolf green was manure free and had looked at the many different options available regarding “sheep sanitary” devices. You can now see where the greens have been shaped, out of bound areas defined, natural bunkers have been enhanced and trees on the course trimmed to look their best, not to mention the bulrushes that will add to the natural design of the course. The Design Team have even managed to incorporate a water feature or river shot and this will probably be the most difficult shot on the course, just to add an extra challenge on the day. Tee boxes have been constructed and are currently being modified with sponsor names.  Maybe this could become one of the great success stories of the recession, Colemanstown ending up with the first 9 hole Footgolf Course in the West!! The bridge across the river, kindly made by Finbar Donnellan and sponsored by FD Refrigeration, was given the green light and the main beam for the bridge was hoisted into place a week ago with the additional side trusses and safety netting being added afterwards. Our world class golfers covet the “Green Jacket” at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, but if rumors are to be believed some members of our ladies team are secretly coveting winning the title of “Best Dressed Footgolf Enthusiast” as it has been suggested that some are busy shopping on line in the hope of winning the prize. The person deemed to have turned up on the day in their best golf attire will be the winner of this prize, so please don’t be afraid to give the ladies team some competition! This novel event promises to be a fun day followed by a night of craic and entertainment with presentation of the prizes in Burke’s Lounge, Colemanstown. Music on the night by DJ Martin with BBQ (eat all you can for €5). As there is only a few days remaining and the Tee times are now starting to fill up PLEASE REMEMBER ONCE YOU HAVE PURCHASED YOUR TICKET TO PHONE 087 7637865 to get your Tee time.

Looking forward to seeing you all in action Saturday.
