U17 Boys: Div 1 Colemanstown 2-4 East Galway. Colemanstown produced a brave and disciplined performance despite eventual defeat to East Galway, playing the entire match with 10 players against 11. From the opening whistle, Colemanstown showed tremendous spirit and organization. Despite several players being asked to line out of position, with Stephen Murphy displaying great composure and ability as the stand in keeper, the very unusual back line formed by Joshua Lualdi on the right, Oisin Gavin our only available center back partnered by Jamie Lally and Sean Keating on the left, the back four played throughout as if they always played in those roles and perhaps through adversity, they put up a very solid display.

The home side defended resolutely and worked tirelessly off the ball. Paddy Gavin, Tom Holahan, Noah McDonnel and Gearoid Walsh all working their socks off and bossed the game for long parts. Their effort were rewarded with two well-taken goals, the first one worked by Jamie with a 60 yards pass to Noah McDonnel to slot past the goalkeeper, the second coming in a reversal of roles once more, when Oisin Gavin found the net from a corner scramble. Colemanstown built and maintained a well deserved 2–0 lead right up to end of the first half. Our lads needed a rest by the end of that half, but what a display, it was all for one and one for all!

East Galway enjoyed a numerical advantage throughout and gradually increased the pressure as the game wore on. But it never felt that way in the first half. They stared the second half with more impetus and belief that they could eventually unravel our lads. Colemanstown’s defence remained stubborn for long periods, with players digging deep and supporting one another up to the last third of the match, the extra man eventually began to tell., however there was an air that something magic could happen A second half goalkeeping swap gave Sean Keating a break and the opportunity to add some fresh legs when Stephen Murphy joined the cause up front.

By this time however, East Galway’s fresher legs paid off as they quickly struck for four goals, turning the game around in the closing stages. Despite the late surge,Colemanstown continued to battle to the final whistle and never dropped their intensity or commitment. While the scoreboard ultimately read 2–4 to East Galway, the result did not reflect the gritty and courageous display from Colemanstown. Playing a full match a man down, showing adaptability, teamwork, and resilience, this was a performance full of positives and character that will stand to the team going forward, all of the lads played an incredible game and should feel very proud of their part, despite the defeat, this time the moral victory is more important than the result.

East Galway management also were highly praising of our efforts and admitted we should have got something form the game, but goals at the end make the difference. East Galway is a tricky customer for us, in the Div 1,2,3 cup they also beat us coming from behind, but we have the return leg to play and maybe settle a score. Match Report: Luca Lualdi

Squad: Stephen Murphy, Joshua Lualdi, Sean Keating, Jamie Lally, Oisin Gavin, Paddy Gavin, Noah McDonnell, Tom Holohan, Gearoid Walsh, Martin Mellody.

U13 Boys: Div 2. Corrib Rangers 12-1 Colemanstown. We travelled to Westside with just 12 players—barely enough to field a team and only one sub to offer relief. A massive shout-out has to go to James Flaherty, who put the team first and stepped up to play in goal today. For the first quarter of an hour, we showed exactly why we’ve climbed to 3rd in the table. Despite sustained pressure from a relentless Rangers side, we battled for every inch. James Vignoles nearly stunned the home crowd in the 6th minute, spotting the keeper off his line and launching a lob that went agonisingly wide. The deadlock finally broke in the 17th minute, just sixty seconds after Rangers had rattled the post. Once they found their rhythm, the league leaders were clinical. The turning point came in the 28th minute when Conor Finnerty put in what looked like a solid tackle, only for the referee to award a highly controversial penalty. Despite our protests, they slotted it home, sending us into the break 4-0 down.

We tried to stem the tide at half-time, moving Patrick Collins to left back and Matthew Kelly into the midfield engine room to try and curb their runners. However, Rangers showed why they are champions. They scored within the first minute of the restart and punished every single mistake we made from then on. While the score mounted, individuals kept fighting: Martin Fleming put in a massive shift at right back, while Lucas McKenna, Matthew Kelly and George Moore never stopped trying to link the play. James Vignoles kept trying to get on the ball and make something happen. Finn Scarry came on to give us fresh legs, but we were simply being outrun by a superior squad on the day. Most teams would have stopped running when losing but this Colemanstown team didn’t. In the final minutes, we played some of our best football of the match. The hard work finally paid off when James Vignoles broke down the left wing. He picked out George Moore, who showed great vision to thread the ball back to Vignoles. James kept his composure and slotted it home—a goal that was a reward for us not giving up. On Sunday we ran into the best team in the league. They outplayed us and outfought us, and we have to give them credit—they are deserving league winners. We played without a recognised keeper, with almost no subs, and we still fought until the final whistle to get that goal. We take the pain of this defeat, we learn from the mistakes, and we dust ourselves off. Match Report: George Moore

Squad: James Flaherty (GK); Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Matthew Kelly, Martin Fleming; Jamie Lally, Patrick Collins (C), Lucas McKenna, George Moore; Nathan Cleary, James Vignoles, Finn Scarry.

On a night that will live long in the memory, Colemanstown U12 Girls delivered when it mattered most, securing the league title with a dramatic and hard-fought victory over Kinvara United in a top-of-the-table clash on home turf yesterday evening.

With just three points separating the sides and two games remaining, the stakes were clear. Victory for Colemanstown would seal the title; defeat would swing momentum firmly towards Kinvara. What followed was a contest that matched the occasion — relentless, high-paced, and filled with tension from the first whistle to the last.

Colemanstown started on the front foot, pinning Kinvara back early and asserting control in the opposition half. The back line of Caoimhe Greene, Ciara Maybin, and Chloe Burke’s composure and determination at the back was vital, as she consistently broke up play with Emily Tuohy behind them, stood firm against Kinvara’s quick counterattacks, ensuring the early pressure was maintained.

The breakthrough came after ten minutes, and it was a goal worthy of the occasion. A sharp exchange between Lucy Burke Hardiman and Katelyn Mannion created space for Eve Corcoran, whose composed long-range finish found the net to ignite celebrations on the touchline.

Colemanstown continued to push. Elise Rohan was superbly skilful up against a strong physical Kinvara defence and Ella Kavanagh stretched the play with intelligent runs, while the introduction of Faye Ryan added further energy and link-up quality between midfield and attack. Rotations involving Méabh Lally, Sadie Devaney, and Grace Reddington ensured the tempo never dropped.

Yet Kinvara showed their quality. They responded with sustained pressure of their own, forcing a series of fine saves from Emily Tuohy who remained fierce calm & composed under pressure to keep Colemanstown’s advantage intact heading into the break.

The second half became a test of nerve. Kinvara started strongly, creating an early chance that signalled their intent. From there, the game evolved into an end-to-end battle, both teams fully aware of what the result would mean. Attacks were traded, momentum swung, and the intensity never dipped.

Chances came at both ends. Elise Rohan and Faye Ryan both saw excellent efforts denied by the Kinvara goalkeeper, while Colemanstown’s defensive unit continued to stand resolute under mounting pressure, where Realtín Saunders delivered an outstanding performance. She read the game superbly, cutting out dangerous attacks and making a series of crucial interventions that helped steady the side.

As the clock ticked down, time seemed to slow. Every tackle, every clearance, every pass carried weight. The few minutes of injury time felt stretched beyond measure, but when the final whistle finally arrived, it confirmed what the performance had deserved.

Colemanstown were champions.

For a group that had previously endured heartbreak in consecutive finals at Eamonn Deacy Park, this moment carried added significance. It was the culmination of months of commitment — training through all conditions, growing together as a team, and maintaining belief.

There is still one game remaining, and a presentation to come on May 3rd, but the significance of this night will endure. This was not just a win — it was a statement of character, resilience, and unity. Match Report: Neil Ryan

Squad: Chloe Burke, Lucy Burke Hardiman, Eve Corcoran, Sadie Devaney, Kayla Grealish, Caoimhe Greene, Erin Holmes, Ella Kavanagh, Méabh Lally, Katelyn Mannion, Ciara Maybin, Holly Melody, Grace Reddington, Elise Rohan, Faye Ryan, Réaltín Saunders, Emily Tuohy.

Colemanstown United were crowned Michael Geary Division 1 champions in style yesterday evening, securing a deserved 3-0 victory over Galway Bohemians on home soil and capping off what has been a truly outstanding season.

Having fallen short in the recent Jack Lillis Cup semi-final, there was a clear sense of determination about the team from the outset. The opening stages were evenly contested, but Colemanstown soon began to assert themselves, creating a number of chances through Kevin Barrett, Tomás Carr and Shane Quirke. The Galway Bohs keeper , however, proved difficult to beat early on, pulling off a series of impressive saves to keep his side in the contest. At the other end, Bohs posed a threat on the break with a direct approach, but Colemanstown’s experienced defensive pairing of Richard Lally and Sean Hardiman stood firm, dealing confidently with anything that came their way.

The game’s first major turning point came on the half-hour mark when Colemanstown were awarded a penalty after Tomás Carr was brought down. Kevin Barrett stepped up, but his effort was well saved, briefly raising fears it might not be their night despite their dominance. Those concerns were short-lived. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, a slick passage of play involving Luke Williams and Ray Moran released Shane Duffy charging forward from right-back. Showing great composure and attacking intent, Duffy beat his marker and unleashed a powerful strike that found the net at the near post, giving Colemanstown a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.

The hosts made two changes at halftime, introducing David Walsh and Kyle Madden, and they began the second half with renewed energy. Their attacking play, particularly down the left flank, caused continuous problems for the visitors. The second goal arrived on the hour mark following excellent link-up play between David Walsh and Shane Quirke. Walsh delivered a pinpoint cross to the back post where Tomás Carr finished confidently to double the advantage.

Colemanstown continued to press, with Quirke rattling the crossbar and Carr narrowly missing another opportunity as they looked to put the game beyond doubt. The third goal duly arrived from a set-piece, as Walsh’s corner was met by Sean Hardiman at the back post, the defender rising highest to head home and seal the victory. With news filtering through that nearest challengers had taken a lead elsewhere, Colemanstown remained composed and managed the final stages comfortably. Further substitutions saw Kerrill Hardiman, Jack Dillon and Thomas Mellody introduced as the hosts saw out the game with confidence.

The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes as players, management and supporters celebrated a league triumph built on consistency and hard work. Winning 16 of their 18 games and losing just once, the title success is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of the squad since pre-season.

A large crowd was in attendance to witness the occasion, with Michael Geary himself present to assist in the presentation of the trophy. It was especially great to see Michael in attendance; a West Utd man to the core but a lovely fitting presence given his strong family connections in the form of his daughter Ann Forde & Barry involved in our club, with grandchildren now also playing with Colemanstown. The club also acknowledges the presence of Rob Horsnell, Terry Lee and Galway FA Secretary Ger Treacy for their role in the ceremony, as captain Shane Duffy proudly lifted the cup.

Credit goes to the management team of Jason Finn, Gary Broderick and Kerrill Lally, who have guided the squad superbly throughout the campaign and ensured an immediate return to the championship bouncing back in impressive fashion after being demoted last season.

The club also extends thanks to Joe Burke and Helen Kirby for capturing the memorable moments, and to Bernie Burke, Burkes Bar, Colemanstown for her hospitality following the celebrations, which continued long into the night. Match Report: Jason Finn, Kerrill Lally, Gary Broderick

Finally, the club wishes to remind members that the First Team End-of-Season Awards Night will take place on Friday, May 8th at 7pm in Burke’s. All are welcome to come along & celebrate what has been a truly emphatic & another memorable year for the club.

U18 Boys: Div1: Oranmore Maree B 5-2 Colemanstown. Colemanstown U18s travelled to Maree on Sunday afternoon for a Division 1 league clash, and despite the final scoreline, this was a game that left both players and coaches feeling a real sense of frustration. On the day, Colemanstown were by far the better footballing side. Dominating possession with close to 80% of the ball, they played some outstanding football and created numerous chances, but simply could not find the finish their performance deserved. In contrast, Maree/Oranmore were clinical, capitalising on almost every opportunity that came their way on the counter-attack.

Before kick-off, management acknowledged the commitment of the squad, with many players balancing soccer alongside GAA commitments. The lads continue to show great loyalty to the Colemanstown jersey, and their development, both as players and as teammates, is something to be very proud of.

Colemanstown suffered an early setback, conceding inside the opening minute. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed the Maree left winger to slip in behind and square the ball across the goal for a simple finish. Despite this, Colemanstown responded superbly and dominated the opening 15 minutes. Captain Ryan Gavin was outstanding, causing constant problems down the right. On 12 minutes, he beat his marker and delivered a dangerous cross to Jamie Lally, whose shot was saved, with Darren Moran unlucky on the rebound as his effort hit the side netting.

With Oisín Devine and Matthew Keane pulling the strings in midfield, and both full-backs Cathal Keane and Tyler Collins pushing forward, Colemanstown created wave after wave of attacks. Gavin also came close himself, rattling the crossbar with a powerful strike. However, against the run of play, Maree doubled their lead on 15 minutes following a goalmouth scramble. Just five minutes later, another quick counter-attack split the Colemanstown defence, and the striker finished well to make it 3–0. To their credit, Colemanstown kept pushing and were rewarded just before halftime. Once again, Gavin was at the heart of it, delivering a cross that led to a save from Darren Moran’s effort, but Shane Dempsey reacted quickest to the rebound to fire home and make it 3–1 at the break.

The second half started in a similar fashion, with Maree/Oranmore scoring early again — this time from a corner, with a free header making it 4–1 after 47 minutes. Although heads could have dropped, the lads continued to battle. Nathan Mannion showed real leadership at the back with some strong, committed tackling, while Conor Walsh was excellent alongside him, consistently breaking up attacks and starting moves from defence.

Goalkeeper Tommy Nutley also produced a number of top-class saves to keep Colemanstown in the contest. Changes were made as the game progressed, with Joshua McDonnell replacing Dempsey on 55 minutes and showing great composure on the ball. Dylan King came on for Moran, who had already put in a huge effort after playing a hurling match earlier in the day, while the trusty Niall Grady replaced Lally on 75 minutes.

Colemanstown were rewarded for their persistence late on. In the final minute, Devine went on one of his trademark runs down the left and delivered a perfect cross for Cathal Keane, who finished first time off the post and into the net. The game finished 5–2, a scoreline that didn’t reflect Colemanstown’s dominance in possession or overall play.

It was a frustrating result, but plenty of positives in terms of performance, attitude, and quality of football. Colemanstown remain second in the table, three points behind Cregmore/Claregalway, who also have a game in hand. With three games remaining, there is still everything to play for.

Player of the Match – Ryan Gavin – a captain’s performance. Outstanding in the first half, constantly driving the team forward, and never let his levels drop. His work rate, leadership, and determination set the standard for the team throughout. Match report: Kara Mullins.

Squad: Tommy Nutley, Tyler Collins, Conor Walsh, Nathan Mannion, Cathal Keane, Shane Dempsey, Ryan Gavin, Matthew Keane, Oisin Divine, Darren Moran, Jamie Lally, Dylan King, Niall Grady, Josh Buckley, Paddy Gavin. Management: Orla McCaffrey, Kara Mullins & Damien Mannion.

U17 Boys: Div1: St. Bernards 2 – 6 Colemanstown. Colemanstown United delivered an excellent all‑round performance away on Saturday to secure a deserved 6–2 away win over St. Bernards in difficult, blustery conditions. Strong winds made football challenging throughout, but United adapted superbly, keeping the ball moving and showing real resilience, work rate, and discipline across the pitch. From the opening exchanges, Colemanstown took control, pressing high and creating chances despite the conditions. Martin Mellody led the line with authority and was the main goal threat, scoring a superb hat‑trick with a combination of sharp finishing and intelligent movement. He was well supported by teammates, with goals also coming from Niall Robbinson, Fabian Carroll and Paddy Gavin, capping off an impressive attacking display.

At the back, Tommy Nutley was solid and assured in goal, dealing confidently with the wind and the home side’s attacks. The back four of Niall Robbinson, Oisin Gavin, Morgan Keogh, and Fionn Proulx worked tirelessly, staying compact and organised throughout.

In midfield, Jamie Lally, Paddy Gavin, and Tom Holohan controlled the tempo, winning key battles and linking play effectively. Out wide, Sean Keating and Noah McDonnell provided energy, width, and strong defensive support when required. All substitutes were introduced and played an important role in maintaining momentum and intensity. Mike Lally, Stephen Murphy, Gearoid Walsh, and Ryan Shaughnessy each made positive contributions, reinforcing the squad effort and ensuring a strong finish to the game. Overall, this was a comprehensive and well‑earned victory for Colemanstown United, built on teamwork, commitment, and quality throughout the entire matchday squad in very testing conditions. Match Report: Luca Lualdi

Girls U14 Div1: Colemanstown 3-0 Craughwell. Our U14 Girls delivered a superb all round performance on Sunday morning as they produced a confident & composed display to secure a deserved 3–0 win at home. From the start, the girls showed great intensity, moved the ball with purpose & worked tirelessly. The breakthrough came through Sorcha Nic an Iomaire who finished clinically to give Colemanstown the advantage & settle the side into their rhythm. Building on that momentum Ava Forde & Julie Holohan added to the lead with well-taken efforts to reward the team’s continued attacking pressure & dominance across the pitch.

Despite Craughwell’s efforts to get back into the game, Colemanstown’s defence stood firm as they showed excellent organisation & determination to keep a clean sheet. A 3-0 home win was enough to ensure all three points stayed at home. This win sees the girls in an impressive 2nd place in the table, sitting behind league leaders Kiltulla who remain unbeaten so far in the league. There is still plenty to play for & with continued performances like this & perhaps a few favourable results elsewhere; the possibility of finishing joint top of the table remains mathematically alive. Match Report: Martina Donnellan

U12 Boys Championship: Colemanstown 1 – 3 Salthill. Our U12 lads welcomed Salthill to the grass pitch on Saturday for their latest league encounter & produced a spirited performance despite the final result. Playing with a slight breeze in the 1st half, Colemanstown created a number of excellent chances early on & looked the more dangerous side. However, it was Salthill who struck first to take the lead against the run of play. The response from our lads was superb as they piled on the pressure. James Vignoles came close with a powerful header from an Oisín Kelly corner that rattled the post, while Oisín Kelly himself was unlucky to see a long-range free kick also come back off the woodwork. The breakthrough finally came from a set piece. Oisín Kelly delivered another dangerous corner which was met by James Vignoles who powered home a header to level the game at 1-1 as the teams parted for the break.

The 2nd half saw Colemanstown continue to create great opportunities, but for some outstanding saves from the Salthill keeper we could have edged in front. Unfortunately, Salthill regained the lead when a defensive clearance looped high & dropped in over Avey Mahon in goal. Despite pushing hard for an equaliser, it wasn’t to be & Salthill added a third late on to seal the game with a 3-1 win to the visitors. Match Report: Peter Kelly.

Squad: Avey Mahon, Martin Fleming, James Vignoles, Eugene Kelly, James Flaherty, Oisín Kelly, Matthew Kelly, Patrick Collins, Colm Mac an Iomaire, Igor Ziolek, Kayden Brett, Nathan Cleary.

U14 Boys Div3: Colemanstown 3-2 Athenry. Our U14 boys delivered a performance full of heart, determination & belief as they staged a thrilling comeback to overcome table toppers Athenry in a truly unforgettable match. Athenry started strong & broke the deadlock on 16mins following sustained early pressure & quickly doubled their advantage to go into half time firmly in control at 2-0. But the 2nd half told a completely different story. Colemanstown emerged with renewed energy & purpose while the introduction of Adam Mitchell & Aaron Burke proved pivotal. The duo linked up superbly & helped to turn the tide & spark the comeback. Their efforts paid off when they combined brilliantly to set up Caelan Noone who unleashed a thunderous strike to the net! Midfielders Sean Forde & Caelan Noone worked tirelessly, driving the team forward. It was Sean Forde who delivered a pinpoint free kick that was expertly headed home by Oisin Flannery to level the game. With momentum now firmly on their side Colemanstown pushed on. The defensive unit of Conor Saunders, Richie O’Connor, Tim Ruane & George Costello stood rock solid, repelling everything that came their way. The decisive moment arrived when Richie O’Connor delivered a perfectly executed free kick which found Adam Mitchell who calmly slotted home to complete an incredible turnaround. The closing stages were tense, but the defence battled heroically, while keeper Iarlaith Griffin pulled off some superb saves to keep Athenry at bay & secure the win. Match Report: Ann Forde.

Squad: Iarlaith Griffin, Conor Saunders, Richie O’Connor, Tim Ruane, Oisin Flannery, Caelan Noone, George Costello, Sean Forde, Sé Laffey, Thomas Kennedy, Mark Shaughnessy, Adam Mitchell, Trevor Harlowe, Aaron Burke, Phelim Flynn, Niall Mason.

U12 Girls: Div2: Colemanstown 2 – 0 Kilshanvey. Our U12 girls got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win against Kilshanvey Utd at home on Sunday morning. Two first half goals from Lucy Burke Hardiman and Elise Rohan sealed the deal for the girls in green who now move on to a top of the table clash against second placed Kinvara Utd on Wednesday night in a game that could decide the league title. Match Report: Neil Ryan

U13 Boys: Championship: Colemanstown Utd A 2-5 Salthill Devon B. Title chasers Salthill Devon B were the latest team to come to Colemanstown on Saturday to take on our U13A team. Playing into a gale force wind our back 4 of Aaron Burke, Chris Burke, George Costello and Jack Grealish, while under pressure were keeping the Salthill attack out ably assisted by Phelim Flynn in goals. Our midfield trio of Oisin Flannery, Evan Molloy and Mark Shaughnessy were working hard and getting ball up the field feeding Sé Laffey and Ethan Monaghan on the wings. After a few half chances either end Colemanstown eventually hit the net through Eoghan O’Neill after he finished off a nice team move. Salthill hit back and capitalised on a defensive error to draw level. 5 minutes later they had their second which was a suckerpunch to the lads that had worked so hard in tough conditions. The welcome introduction of Daniel Kelly was a great moment in the game as he returned from a serious injury that left him sidelined for 5 months. Daniel was in the action straight away making up for the lost time. Half time score: Colemanstown Utd 1-2 Salthill Devon

Kerrill Walsh and Frank Dunne were introduced at half time and the boys were hoping for a big second half performance with the wind at their backs. Colemanstown controlled the second half for large parts but couldn’t find an equaliser with a few scorable chances going wide or over the bar. Salthill were dangerous on counter attack and used their pace upfront to full advantage. Their 3rd goal was worked in from the wing and while Kerrill Walsh saved the initial shot the ball fell to a Salthill player to tap home. The Colemanstown pressure eventually paid off as Eoghan O’Neill grabbed his second goal following a goalmouth scramble. The last 2 goals were from the visitors; one from a free kick and the second was a good individual effort from their striker who weaved his way through our defence and slid the ball into the bottom corner. Final score from Colemanstown. Colemanstown Utd 2 -5 Salthill Devon. Match Report: Adrian Burke.

Squad: Phelim Flynn, Kerrill Walsh, Ethan Monaghan Mark Shaughnessy, George Costello, Evan Molloy, Oisin Flannery, Daniel Kelly, Eoghan O’Neill, Frank Dunne, Sé Laffey, Aaron Burke, Chris Burke, Jack Grealish

Women’s Championship: Colemanstown 4 – 0 Corrib Rangers. Colemanstown Ladies returned to winning ways last night with an assured and disciplined 4–0 victory over Corrib Rangers, a result that keeps momentum building ahead of the final game of their league campaign. The breakthrough came in emphatic fashion. Alicia Flannery opened the scoring with a thunderous strike from outside the box, setting the tone for a confident Colemanstown display. Operating as a lone striker, Grace Mitchell led the line tirelessly and was unfortunate not to add to the tally, seeing a well-struck effort drift narrowly wide of the post. Colemanstown doubled their advantage before the break in fortunate circumstances, as an Alicia Flannery free kick resulted in an own goal, giving the hosts a 2–0 cushion at half-time.

The early stages of the second half tested that advantage. Corrib Rangers responded with renewed intensity, but Colemanstown’s defensive unit — Eilish Fitzpatrick, Lucy Roberts, Chloe Manley, and Annalise Doran — stood firm. When called upon, Ruth Dempsey provided a calm and assured presence in goal, ensuring the clean sheet remained intact. With the pressure weathered, Colemanstown regained control. Captain Lucy Roberts extended the lead from a corner, reacting quickest to find the net and effectively put the result beyond doubt. The scoring was completed by Louise Byrnes, who marked her first goal of the season in style, adding a fourth to cap a comprehensive team performance. As the final whistle sounded, there was a sense of a team finding its rhythm at just the right time. Attention now turns to the final league fixture, where Colemanstown will welcome near neighbours Cregmore/Claregalway on May 4th, looking to finish their campaign on a high. Match Report: Neil Ryan

U14 Boys: Div 3 Colemanstown 2- 2 Corofin. When these sides met earlier in the league, Corofin were convincing 8-1 winners, but this encounter on Thursday last proved a completely different test as Colemanstown produced a display full of intent, resilience & super progress to earn a deserved 2-2 draw. The opening half was a tightly contested affair with both teams evenly matched & battled hard to gain the upper hand. Defences were on top throughout the 1st hair & neither side was able to break the deadlock. Excellent organisation at the back from Conor Saunders, Tim Ruane, George Moore & Ritchie O’Connor combined with an assured performance from Iarlaith Griffin in goals ensured it remained scoreless at the break. Oisín Flannery was introduced during the half & added fresh energy to the Colemanstown attack.

Colemanstown emerged for the 2nd half with renewed purpose & began to apply greater pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when Sé Laffey tested the Corofin keeper with a well struck effort while Oisín Flannery reacted quickest to the rebound & finished neatly from close range to open the scoring. Corofin responded though in determined fashion & quickly equalised & added a second soon after to turn the game on its head to lead 2-1. Despite the setback, Colemanstown showed great character & refused to back down. Their persistence paid off following a spell of impressive attacking play with Oisín Flannery turning provider to set up Caelan Noone, who fired an unstoppable shot to the net which sparked huge celebrations as the sides were level again. The closing stages were played at a high intensity as both teams pushed for a winner, but neither could find the decisive breakthrough as the game finished honours even. Keeper Iarlaith Griffin was outstanding throughout & produced a number of top-class saves to keep Colemanstown firmly in contention. It was a strong all round squad performance with every player contributing while the subs made an equally positive impact when called upon. Match Report: Ann Forde.

Squad: Iarlaith Griffin, Conor Saunders, Tim Ruane, George Moore, Ritchie O’Connor, Caelan Noone, Sean Forde, Mark Shaughnessy, Sé Laffey, Thomas Kennedy, Adam Mitchell, Aaron Burke, Oisín Flannery, Trevor Harlowe, Oisín Dolan, Niall Mason.

U13 Boys: Div 2: Colemanstown B 5 – 0 Loughrea B. The weather was wet and the wind was howling across the pitch, meaning Colemanstown had to battle a significant disadvantage in the first half. However, unlike the previous game where we started slowly, the boys were pumped and ready from the start, opting for a clever “pass and move” strategy on the deck to negate the wind. Avey Mahon started in goal, with a back four of Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Matthew Kelly and, captain for the day, James Flaherty. Our midfield was made up of Patrick Collins, Lucas McKenna, Oisin Kelly and George Moore. James Vignoles and Andrew Davoren started up front. Andrew Davoren nearly broke the deadlock at 4 minutes when he was sent through on goal but his shot was saved. A few moments later he had another chance after a dangerous cross from George Moore. In a bizarre turn of events 10 minutes in, James Flaherty was forced off due to a “sock malfunction” with Martin Fleming stepping in seamlessly at left back. The breakthrough finally came in the 15th minute. Oisin Kelly threaded a beautiful ball through to James Vignoles, who kept his cool to tuck it away. We might have had the “rub of the green” on a handball shout, but we certainly deserved the lead. Just before the halftime whistle, Loughrea looked certain to equalise on the break. Conor Finnerty produced a world-class recovery tackle, covering huge ground to protect Avey Mahon’s clean sheet.

With the wind now at our backs, we made a triple substitution, bringing on Jamie Lally, Eugene Kelly, and a restored James Flaherty. The impact was immediate and devastating. Within minutes of the restart, Jamie Lally turned the game into a masterclass. He teed up James Vignoles twice in quick succession, allowing Vignoles to complete a magnificent hat-trick. Matthew Kelly was dominating the middle of the field and with a 3 goal cushion the boys grew in confidence and were playing some lovely football. Senan Prolux joined the party 10 minutes into the half. After a tantalizing cross from George Moore, Senan showed great composure to bag his first goal of the season. Andrew Davoren came back on for hat-trick hero James Vignoles and Finn Scarry made his debut replacing Patrick Collins, who had run his socks off. Andrew Davoren put the result beyond any doubt halfway through the half, finishing clinically to record Jamie Lally’s third assist of the afternoon. As the game wound down, we were able to rotate the squad, bringing on Igor Ziolek, Martin Fleming, Nathan Cleary, and Lucas McKenna to see the game out. Despite being five down, Loughrea kept pushing, but the togetherness of the Colemanstown defence was unbreakable. Every player dug deep to ensure Avey Mahon went home with a well-earned clean sheet. The game finished 5-0 and the most satisfying part of the game was the boys didn’t wait for the game to come to us; they went and took it. From Conor’s goal-saving tackle to James’s clinical hat-trick and Jamie’s hat-trick of assists, it was a team win. Moving into 3rd in the table is exactly where we want to be. The team enjoyed this one on Saturday, but in two weeks, we head to Corrib Rangers. We’ll take this same spirit, the same togetherness, and we’ll strive to show the league leaders what this Colemanstown team is all about. Match Report: Dermot Moore

Squad: Avey Mahon, Senan Prolux, Conor Finnerty, Matthew Kelly, James Flaherty, Patrick Collins, Oisin Kelly, Lucas McKenna, George Moore, James Vignoles, Andrew Davoren, Jamie Lally, Eugene Kelly, Martin Fleming, Igor Ziolek, Nathan Cleary, Finn Scarry. Unavailable: Cathal Burns, Oisin Duane, Dara Ryan & Diarmuid Nevin.

Colemanstown U12 boys faced a busy schedule over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend with two Championship fixtures away to Bearna na Forbacha & home to Corrib Rangers.

U12 Boys: Championship: Bearna na Forbacha 0-1 Colemanstown. On Saturday morning, our U12 lads made the early journey to Barna to take on Bearna na Forbacha under the guidance of Fintan Finnerty & Kevin Collins. Challenging weather conditions meant a late switch from the grass pitch to the astro surface. With a reduced panel of just 10 players, the squad delivered a determined & disciplined performance. Colemanstown created several scoring opportunities, with Patrick Collins & Colm Mac an Iomaire central to much of the attacking play. The breakthrough eventually came when Matthew Kelly found the net to secure a hard-earned 1–0 win. The team showed great resilience in the closing stages to hold onto their lead in difficult conditions. Match Report: Peter Kelly

Squad: Avey Mahon, Eugene Kelly, Igor Ziolek, Conor Finnerty, Matthew Kelly, Oisin Kelly, Patrick Collins, Martin Fleming, Colm Mac an Iomaire, Kayden Brett, Nathan Cleary.

U12 Boys: Championship: Colemanstown 0-3 Corrib Rangers. The squad were back in action tonight Tuesday evening when they hosted table-toppers Corrib Rangers. This was always expected to be a stern test & despite a committed effort from Colemanstown, it was the visitors who came out on top with a 3–0 win. While the result did not go their way, the lads showed great spirit across both games in a demanding weekend of soccer.

U14 Boys Div 3 Colemanstown 4-2 Knocknacarra. Colemanstown Utd U14 boys delivered one of their standout performances of the season on Saturday when they secured a superb 4–2 victory over Knocknacarra in challenging, blustery conditions. The game began at a high tempo, with both sides evenly matched in the opening stages. It was Colemanstown who struck first in the 25th minute as Mark Shaughnessy threaded a brilliant pass through to Sean Forde, who finished confidently to give Colemanstown the lead. The introduction of Aaron Burke proved to be a turning point as he made an immediate impact off the bench. He first threaded a ball through for Thomas Kennedy before he linked up again to assist Mark Shaughnessy for Colemanstown’s second. Colemanstown went into the break firmly in control at 2–0.

Colemanstown carried that momentum into the second half. Shortly after the restart, Tim Ruane produced a stunning run from deep, covering almost the length of the pitch before teeing up Thomas Kennedy for a well taken third goal for Colemanstown. Caelan Noone then extended the lead to 4–0 from the penalty spot, putting daylight between the sides. Knocknacarra battled back and pulled two goals back in the second half, both from the penalty spot, but Colemanstown’s solid defensive unit stood firm. Conor Saunders, Tim Ruane, Richie O’Connor and George Costello were immense at the back & provided a rock-solid shield in front of the outstanding Iarlaith Griffin in goal.

Across midfield Caelan Noone, Sean Forde, Sé Laffey & Mark Shaughnessy worked tirelessly, while Adam Mitchell & Thomas Kennedy impressed up front with their movement & threat in attack. There was also a valuable contribution from the bench, with Trevor Harlowe, Aaron Burke, Niall Mason & Phelim Flynn who all played their part in a complete squad performance. Overall, this was a fantastic team display; arguably one of the best performances produced by this group of lads all season as the game finished with Colemanstown 4-2 comfortable winners. Match Report: Ann Forde

Squad: Iarlaith Griffin, Conor Saunders , Richie O’Connor, Tim Ruane, Adam Mitchell, Caelan Noone, George Costello, Sean Forde, Sé Laffey, Thomas Kennedy, Mark Shaughnessy, Trevor Harlowe, Aaron Burke, Niall Mason, Phelim Flynn.

U14 Girls Div 1 Colemanstown 5-3 Kilshanvey. Colemanstown U14 girls delivered an impressive performance at home to Kilshanvey, securing a well-earned 5–3 victory in challenging conditions. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, Colemanstown showed great composure and control, dominating both possession and territory from the outset. Their early pressure paid off when Sorcha Nic an Iomaire opened the scoring, calmly finishing one-on-one with the keeper by placing the ball to the keeper’s left. Colemanstown remained firmly in control for the remainder of the half, moving the ball well and limiting Kilshanvey’s opportunities. They went into the break with a deserved lead.

Three changes were made at halftime, and Colemanstown made an immediate impact. Just three minutes into the second half, Sorcha Nic an Iomaire this time turned provider, setting up Aoibhinn Doyne for her first goal of the season. Aoibhinn finished confidently with her left foot to double the lead and got the loudest cheer of the day from the stand. Colemanstown continued to push forward and soon made it 3–0, with Sorcha grabbing her second of the game with another well-taken finish. Kilshanvey responded to make it 3-1. Niamh Lally who had moved out of goal in the second half—scoring from a well-struck free kick to restore Colemanstown’s 3 goal advantage.

Kilshanvey gained momentum and pulled two more goals back, bringing the score to 4–3 and setting up a tense finish. However, Colemanstown responded strongly, regaining control of the game. Sorcha Nic an Iomaire completed her hat-trick with another excellent goal to make it 5–3, sealing the victory. Colemanstown managed the closing stages comfortably, seeing out the game with confidence. It was a superb team performance, highlighted by excellent passing and teamwork throughout, and a thoroughly deserved win for the girls. Match Report: Garry O’Grady

U12 Girls Div 2: Coole 3 – 1 Colemanstown. In windy and difficult conditions and missing a number of players through illness and holidays, our U12 girls suffered their first league defeat on Monday away to Gort side Coole. Coole struck first with a quick goal but Colemanstown equalised with superbly worked team play for Emily Tuohy making her forward line debut to calmly finish. The sides went in 1-1 at the break but two quick second half goals by Coole made it 3-1 and despite their best efforts Colemanstown couldn’t breach the Coole defence. The girls will dust themselves off and regroup for the visit of Kilshanvey in two weeks time with the league title still very much in their own hands with three games left to play. Match Report: Neil Ryan

It was a busy few days across all age groups at the weekend with plenty of action, great performances & important results!

U12 Boys Championship: Colemanstown 1–1 Salthill B. Our U12 boys made the trip to Drom for an afternoon kick-off in their latest league encounter. They started brightly, created a hatful of chances while they remained solid at the back. The breakthrough came on 10mins when Cathal Burns found the net, but unfortunately the lead couldn’t be extended despite continued pressure. The 2nd half followed a similar pattern as Colemanstown created several chances that went narrowly wide or just over the crossbar – on another day, they’d have gone in. The hosts drew level early in the half & despite a strong push for a winner which included a late foul on Colm Mac an Iomaire in the box that went unawarded, the game finished all square. A share of the spoils in the end. Match Report: Peter Kelly.

Squad: Avey Mahon, Eugene Kelly, Conor Finnerty, James Flaherty, Patrick Collins, Cathal Burns, Matthew Kelly, Colm Mac an Iomaire, Oisin Kelly.

Women’s Championship: Bearna na Forbacha 2–1 Colemanstown. Our ladies made the trip to Barna on Sunday & while there were strong spells of play, they were ultimately edged out by the hosts. Sharon Finn got on the scoresheet for Colemanstown, but it wasn’t enough on the day as Bearna na Forbacha claimed a 2–1 win.

U12 Girls: Div 2 Colemanstown 6–0 Oughterard. A superb performance from our U12 girls on Sunday morning saw them record a comprehensive 6–0 win over Oughterard. Katelyn Mannion stole the show with a fantastic hat-trick; the first of many, we hope! Must be the açaí bowls keeping her sharp in front of goal. Eve Corcoran added a brilliant brace, while Ella Kavanagh also got her name on the scoresheet. That’s now 6 wins from 6 in the league, leaving the girls sitting top of the table with four games to play.

U18 Boys: Div. 1 Colemanstown 2–1 Oranmore/Maree. Colemanstown U18s welcomed Maree/Oranmore B to home turf on Sunday afternoon, looking to keep the pressure on league leaders Cregmore/Claregalway B. In contrast to recent weeks, the sun was shining, making for ideal playing conditions, and the lads responded with a flying start.

Oisín Devine, returning from an ankle injury, was immediately causing problems for the Maree/Oranmore defence with his pace and direct running. Josh Buckley, moved into midfield from his usual centre-back role, delivered an outstanding performance, breaking up opposition attacks and quickly turning defence into attack.

It was Buckley who played a key role in the opening goal after just 9 minutes. Winning a tackle he had no right to claim, he quickly released Devine down the left wing. Devine drove forward at pace, cut back onto his right foot, and with great vision picked out the run of Darren Moran, who delicately flicked a header up and over the goalkeeper and into the net. A brilliantly worked goal that left the supporters in awe. Colemanstown continued to press, and on 27 minutes Buckley again picked out Moran with a clever pass in behind, but this time the Maree/Oranmore keeper produced an excellent save to deny him.

At the back, Conor Walsh slotted back into his centre-half role alongside the ever-reliable Nathan Mannion, who mixed composure with the occasional moment of flair that kept management on edge & close to mini heart attacks. Mannion came close on 32 minutes when a corner from Matthew Keane found his head, but he was unlucky not to hit the target.

Tyler Collins was steady Eddie again throughout at right full, producing a crucial recovery run to deny what looked like a certain Maree goal, he never gave up the chase and put enough pressure on the attacker to force his effort over the bar. In midfield, Matthew Keane and Paddy Gavin battled hard, with Keane particularly strong on set pieces. Colemanstown went into the break leading 1–0.

Maree/Oranmore started the second half brightly and were unlucky not to equalise early on, only to be denied by a superb piece of defending from Cathal Keane, who tracked back brilliantly to clear the ball off the line. Colemanstown continued to create chances, with Buckley, M. Keane, and Ryan Gavin linking well with Moran up top, who was in fine form holding up play and bringing others into the game. After 60 minutes, Tomas Rogerson replaced Paddy Gavin, while Jamie Lally came on for the injured Buckley.

Colemanstown doubled their lead on 70 minutes following a free kick wide on the right. Matthew Keane delivered a dangerous ball into the box, Lally rose highest to head against the crossbar, and Walsh reacted quickest at the back post to slot home from a tight angle. 2–0 to Colemanstown, and a perfect early birthday present for Walsh, who turned 18 two days before. The lead was short-lived, however, as a misplaced pass allowed Maree/Oranmore back into the game, and they made no mistake in front of goal to pull it back to 2–1.

To their credit, Colemanstown responded well. Rogerson found Lally on the edge of the box, and he turned quickly to fire a low, powerful shot, only for the keeper to produce another fine save. The game finished 2–1 to Colemanstown, securing another vital three points. The result keeps them firmly in the title race, sitting second on 24 points, just behind Cregmore/Claregalway B on 27.

Player of the Match: Josh Buckley – A commanding performance in midfield from Buckley, who led by example throughout. He was relentless in breaking up play, strong in the tackle, and key in driving Colemanstown forward, including his vital role in the opening goal. We also wish Josh a speedy recovery after being forced off through injury. Match report: Kara Mullins.

Squad: Tommy Nutley, Tyler Collins, Conor Walsh, Nathan Mannion, Cathal Keane, Ryan Gavin, Josh Buckley, Paddy Gavin, Matthew Keane, Oisin Divine, Darren Moran, Tomás Rogerson, Dylan King, Niall Grady, Jamie Lally. Management: Orla McCaffrey, Damien Mannion & Kara Mullins.

U13 Boys: Championship: Colemanstown A 4–2 Merlin Woods. Under the lights on Monday night, our U13 boys produced a strong performance to overcome Merlin Woods 4–2. Evan Molloy led the way with a brace while Eoghan O’Neill & Mark Shaughnessy also found the net. A well-earned win that sees the team climbing the table nicely.

Men’s Div1: West United 1-3 Colemanstown. Colemanstown produced a superb away performance on Sunday to claim a deserved 3–1 victory over West United at South Park, overcoming difficult conditions and a tight playing surface to take a big step forward in their league campaign. Played on a narrower pitch than expected, and in challenging conditions that included a poor surface and strong gale-force winds, this was never going to be a straightforward contest. The opening stages reflected that, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Despite earning several set pieces in the first 15–20 minutes, Colemanstown were unable to break the deadlock early on.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half following excellent build-up play. James Collevy and Ray Moran combined well before feeding Shane Quirke who produced a moment of brilliance, beating a couple of defenders before unleashing a stunning 25-yard strike into the top right-hand corner. Colemanstown doubled their advantage ten minutes later, and it was another goal of real quality. Moran reacted quickest to a dropping ball and struck it sweetly with his left foot. The effort deceived the goalkeeper and dipped late, finding the net in spectacular fashion to give the visitors a 2–0 lead at the break.

Despite having the wind in their favour in the first half, Colemanstown knew they would face a strong response after the interval and that proved to be the case. West came out with intent and applied sustained pressure in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Their efforts were rewarded when they converted from a set piece to reduce the deficit. The home side continued to threaten from dead-ball situations, but Colemanstown’s defence stood firm. Richie Lally and Luke Williams were particularly impressive at the heart of the backline, dealing resolutely with a series of deliveries into the box.

Fresh legs were introduced as Colemanstown looked to regain control, with David Walsh, Jack Dillon, and Tomás Flannery all entering the fray. The changes proved effective, and the visitors began to reassert themselves in the final 20 minutes. Quirke came close to adding a third, striking the woodwork during this spell. The decisive third goal eventually arrived when Jack Dillon reacted quickest after a save from the West United goalkeeper, finishing from close range to restore Colemanstown’s two-goal cushion.

There was still time for further drama late on. With five minutes remaining, Ray Moran was brought down in the box, earning a penalty. However, Flannery’s effort struck the base of the post, denying the visitors an emphatic scoreline. Colemanstown saw out the closing stages with composure, managing the game intelligently to secure a thoroughly deserved 3–1 victory.

Given the difficult conditions and a relatively small squad, this was an impressive and resilient performance. The result leaves Colemanstown in a strong position heading into their final two league fixtures, where six points would guarantee the title, while four points would likely secure at minimum a playoff for the title. Match Report: Jason Finn & Kerrill Lally

Squad: Alan Finn, Shane Duffy, James Collevy, Richard Lally, Luke Williams, Aironas Kantauskas, Kerrill Hardiman, Ray Moran, Thomas Mellody, Tomas Carr, Shane Quirke, David Walsh, Tomas Flannery, Jack Dillon

U16 Girls: Div1: Colemanstown Utd 2–5 Moyne Villa. Colemanstown Utd faced a tough challenge at home to Moyne Villa on Thursday evening in the first of two quick-fire fixtures. The visitors struck twice from distance in the first half, which left Niamh Lally with little chance in goal & gave us a 2–0 deficit at the break. Matters became more difficult early in the second half as Moyne Villa extended their lead to 3-0. To their credit, Colemanstown showed great spirit to fight back into contention. Leah Hansberry pulled a goal back before Ella Hansberry netted her first for the club soon after. The goals injected real belief into the girls. However, Moyne Villa responded strongly & added two further goals to seal a deserved victory for them. Despite the result, there were standout performances from Eimear Schwitalla, Leah Hansberry & Emma Collins who all impressed in attack. Match Report: Niall Rohan

U16 Girls: Div1: Knocknacarra ‘B’ 2–2 Colemanstown. Colemanstown made the trip to face Knocknacarra ‘B’ on Sunday. It was the hosts who made a fast start & capitalised early to take the lead. Despite chances for Emma Collins & Shauna McDonagh, Colemanstown couldn’t find a breakthrough & Knocknacarra doubled their advantage before halftime. The 2nd half saw a transformed Colemanstown side emerge, full of energy & determination. Leah Hansberry continued her outstanding season with two well-taken goals to bring the game level. Colemanstown pushed hard for a winner & came agonisingly close when Ruth Burke unleashed a stunning 25yard strike that crashed off the crossbar. In the end, both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils in a hard fought & entertaining 2–2 draw. Match Report: Niall Rohan
