Crushing Defeat for ‘B’ Team

NUIG students were rampant in Dangan on Saturday with a feast of goals as they crushed the ‘B’ team 6-2. Even though Colemanstown were outclassed from the start they still went 2-nil up after 15mins and looked ambitious in their efforts until the tide turned. Our 1st goal came from a Kerrill Lally free kick which fell kindly for Robert Lally whose emphatic bicycle kick rattled the roof of the net. 4mins later a Kerrill Lally corner from the left was poorly handled by the NUIG keeper & Shane Kenny was at the right place to tap home from close range. Thomas Broderick, then had two smashing fingertip saves in quick succession, one parried onto the post and the other onto the crossbar. NUIG then got what they richly deserved. They were the fresher, brighter, fitter and more dominant team and they picked Colemanstown apart in almost every sector of the field. As NUIG clawed their way back in to the game, their first goal came direct from a free kick. 10mins after they got the equaliser with a long ball over the top which their striker ran on to, his first attempt at goal was well saved by man of the match Tom Broderick but the rebounded effort he could do nothing about. 2-2 half time. NUIG took complete control after the restart and with their ensuing pressure and dominance they shattered Colemanstown with 4 more goals. It may sound like a contradiction but Thomas Broderick was simply outstanding and it would easily have been more of a drubbing only for his heroics. Late opportunities fell to Robert Lally who missed a 1 on 1 chance and Steven Broderick, just returned from Oz, who headed wide of the mark with a free header. There was little else for Colemanstown to shout about as they felt the full force of NUIG’s power and superiority in this one. But heads up lads, look what happened to Man U at the weekend and rest assured they’ll be back!
