Colemanstown & Knocknacarra Battle to 2-2 draw

Mens Championship: Colemanstown 2 – 2 Knocknacarra. After the unprecedented impact of Storm Eowyn, we had a rather quiet weekend on the soccer front with only 1 game proceeding. On Saturday Colemanstown hosted Knocknacarra in a closely contested clash that ended in a 2-2 draw. The opening 15mins were scrappy as neither side managed to establish dominance. Colemanstown broke the deadlock when Sean Hardiman rose highest in the box to head home a perfectly delivered corner kick from Richie Lally. However the visitors  responded quickly with a set-piece of their own. A loose ball bobbled around the box before being tapped home from the edge of the area levelling matters at 1-1. The remainder of the 1st half saw few clear chances & the teams went in at the break on level terms. Colemanstown regained the lead around 15mins into the 2nd half when Harry Mitchell’s speculative effort from outside the box took a deflection and nestled in the back of the net. Our joy was short lived though as Knocknacarra equalised almost immediately. A corner kick was poorly dealt with & the visitors capitalised when they finished at the back post to make it 2-2. As the game wore on Colemanstown created a few half chances to snatch a winner with efforts from Geordan Kenny & Harry Mitchell which came close. Despite their efforts, neither side could find the decisive goal & the game petered out to a 2-2 draw. Match Report: Jason Finn
