Big dent in ‘B’ Team’s hopes

This latest loss put a large dent in our ‘B’ teams hopes to do well this year as a depleted Colemanstown side were merely swept aside by West Utd at home on Saturday. Our lads endured 70mins of misery and with no fresh legs apart from Sean Walsh to introduce thanks mainly to weddings, Pearses footballers in the North Board Final, holidays, injuries and 1 red card; at least not many had to suffer the indignity of being substituted! West Utd controlled this game almost from start to finish and with 3 goals to show they were by far the dominant team and no one could argue with that. Rob Lally had some early one-on-one chances for Colemanstown but his first effort was wide of the target while his second attempt was blasted over the bar. West Utd went 1-0 up after 15 mins; a blatant off-side which was ruled a legitimate goal by the referee. Colemanstown’s other first half effort was a free kick taken by Ross Sullivan which skimmed wide of the post. West’s second came from the penalty spot when Paul Moore was adjudged to have fouled the striker although some say he actually tripped! while stand-in keeper Eanna Daly almost got his fingers to it. Sean Walsh hit the post in the 2nd half while Conor O’Grady’s neatly tucked away goal was disallowed as he was adjudged to be off-side. As the second half wore on, West got their third in a long ball over the top which their striker latched on to and so killed off any signs of a  Colemanstown revival. On the day Colemanstown were best served by Shane Bailey, Joe Finnerty, Conor O’Grady and Sean Walsh.      .

Meanwhile our ‘A’ team’s Connaught Cup match was conceded by Ballyhaunis who were unable to field due to Mayo’s County Intermediate football final which was scheduled for the same day.

CUFC Committee meeting takes place this Friday night at 9pm sharp in the clubhouse.
