A whopping €19,000 raised for Galway Hospice

A Galway Hospice Fundraiser was held in Burkes of Colemanstown on Saturday the 31st March in memory of Yvonne Hardiman, RIP, late of Newcastle, Athenry and formely of Co. Tipperary. Yvonne battled her illness bravely and with great courage. The total amount raised was €19,000 with all proceeds going towards Galway Hospice.

This large sum was raised by means of a Raffle, Auction, Barbeque and Colemanstown’s first ever “Potato Peeling” contest – champion peeler on the night was Declan Treacy, Coosan, Monivea who received his specially carved ‘spud’, made by Kieran O’Connor out of wood – a work of art it has to be said- Well done Kieran! The organising committee wish to sincerely thank all who donated money, spot prizes, auction items and food for the Barbeque and to everyone who lent a helping hand in so many ways. The auction itself was a tremendous success and a big thank you must go to auctioneer on the night and former TD Mr. Noel Treacy (Galway County Hurling Board Chairman) who added great wit while a sincere thanks also to all who bought auction items on the night.

A big thanks to all who sold raffle cards both locally, regionally and nationally as this generated the bulk of the funds collected. The organising committee also wish to thank Frank & Bernie Burke, Colemanstown for the use of their premises and also to Galway Hospice for their constant guidance and support in ensuring a smooth and successful event. It was a hugely enjoyable and unforgettable event and another night to add to the litany of great nights in Burke’s of Colemanstown!

This €19,000 contribution will help Galway Hospice to continue with the highest quality of care to patients and their families throughout Galway City and County.
