A team’s unbeaten league form continues

Our A team’s unbeaten streak was maintained with a hard earned 3-1 win over table toppers West Utd at home yesterday morning. West took the early advantage with a goal against the run of play. Colemanstown equalised with 20mins left in the 2nd half when Jack kennedy’s free kick was blasted to the net from a Jayo Finn header past a flailing keeper. Colemnastown dominated the rest of the half with chances falling to Ray Moran, Sean Walsh & Gareth Lally. 1-1 at the break.

Not long after the restart the visitors scored a famous goal in their own net with a powerful header that obviously went wrong somewhere for them but for us it was presented on a platter to put us 2-1 up! 5mins later Gareth Lally had a good curling effort which went just wide of the post while Ray Moran had an effort from distance which the keeper saved. Although Colemanstown were well on top, the visitors posed an occasional threat on the counterattack, and none more so evident than with 15mins to play when Colemnastown got disposed in midfield and a through ball split our defence for West’s striker to run on to and he beat John Gormally to leave him no chance in goal. Colemanstown responded promptly as Lee Murphy put through a long ball for Gary Lally to latch on to but the keeper was alert to the danger and for once Gary’s legs weren’t quick enough!. 2mins later Ronan Geraghty’s hard work paid off when he squared a ball across to Gareth Lally who finished superbly to put Colemanstown in the driving seat again. Jayo Finn then fed Squelchy who beat the off-side trap but was dismayed to see his finish hit the butt of the post. 3-1 it finished in a game which Colemanstown just about did enough to justify earning all 3 points.

Next week sees our A team take on Tuam Celtic in the Connacht Junior Cup in Tuam on Sunday at 2pm.
