Colemanstown took on St. Johns of Sligo, former club of ‘B’ team co-manager/player Barry Forde, who made the long trek to Colemanstown to play Round 1 of the Connacht Cup at 2pm today. It was a game that paid homage to the old adage ‘a game of 2 halves’ predominately due to the stiff breeze. Colemanstown gave everything from the first whistle and took advantage of the breeze in the first half and found themselves 4-0 to the good by half time with Alo Finn opening the rout when he curled his corner perfectly into the net. Ray Moran scored our 2nd with a right footed strike from the edge of the box while Alo Finn scored an exact replica of his first with another corner which swirled straight into the net. 5mins before the break Ronnie Geraghty scored a screamer from almost the half way line when he spotted the keeper off his line. Niall Gelston is worthy of note given that he saved 2 penalties one in either half. Most keepers are tall with immense reach but our Gelston is the exact opposite! Yet he did well guessing the right way and showed great reflexes buoying up his teammates in the process. The visitors goal also came from the penalty spot in the 2nd half which was the nearest they got to clawing back the deficit. Next Sunday our ‘A’ team resume league action when they play Corrib Rangers in Westside, 11am KO.
