U12’s win Shiven Tournament

We had 4 No. teams in the excellent run Shiven 7-a-side fundraising
tournament hosted by the Murphy Family and assisted by Shiven Rovers
A.F.C. on Sunday with all monies raised going to the Ronald McDonald
House in Crumlin Hospital & The Florida Rainbow Company.  We fielded 2
No. Under 12 teams & thanks to Bobby Masterson, Gerry Kelly & Jack
Kennedy for their managerial duties with both teams.  We also fielded
2 No Under 10 teams and thanks to Gary Broderick & Kerrill Lally whose
heads were well ‘cleared’ given the eagerness of these youngsters who
were just dying to play football and the early morning rays of
sunshine.

Well here goes…. a few match reports from a Colemanstown
perspective, short!, not very technical, certainly no YouTube job, but
hopefully a reasonable reflection of the days proceedings…..

Under 10’s, Colemanstown ‘A’

In Round 1 they played Shiven Rovers and an excellent trademark free
kick by Geordan Kenny was enough to get the necessary point.  The
diminutitive Dylan Laffey was exceptional in goals showing why he is
so highly rated as a keeper while the never tiring Aaron Molloy showed
great menace with some thwarting runs.

In Round 2 they beat Kilkerrin in a 7-0 drubbing.  James Barclay was
to the fore as he gave the opposition a torrid time showing great
movement and power pulling Kilkerrin’s defence apart on numerous
occassions as he netted 4 in this game.  Geordan Kenny, Thomas ‘Mossy’
Carr & Darren Brennan also showed magical form and coolness
personified on scoring their goal a-piece.  Stephen Laffey did well
while Kyle McGuire & Jack Beasley showed some dazzling footwork &
skill.

In Round 3 they drew 3-3 in the game of the tournament.  James Barclay
(2) & Geordan Kenny got the goals while Michael Lally & Liam Murray
caused all sorts of problems.  With 2 wins and a draw they topped the
group and faced Salthill Devon in the semi final.  It was a superb
game by 2 good footballing sides.  Salthill scored early on but James
Barclay quickly responded with a smashin’ piledriver.  Salthill got
the winner immediately following the kick off and went on to win the
under 10 title and so end our youngsters hopes.

Under 10’s, Colemanstown ‘B’

Our B team lost 4-0 to Salthill Devon, beat Shiven Rovers 3-2, lost to
eventual finalists & runners up Cregmore 4-0 and lost 2-0 to
Kilkerrin.  Our scorers were: Kellie Brennan, Niall Mannion & Adam
Lally.  Darren Moran was in splendid goalkeepimg form and certainly
couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals conceeded.  Oisin Hughes,
Jason Fahy, Brian Hansberry, Oisin Laheen, Josh Brennan & Eve Murray
were the other panelists and all tried hard showing great confidence
and eagerness.

 Under 12’s, Colemanstown ‘A’

Yet another trophy for this team to add to last years u-11 league
success for Bobby Mastersons squad and one could not be more proud of
these boys.  They played 8 games and finished with 7 points as did
Shiven Rovers so both teams met in the final with Colemanstown winning
2-0.  Kieran Dowd with a fine 1st half strike and a Ronan O’ Neill
effort in the 2nd half was enough to secure this Perpetual trophy and
keep this team in winning form.  Sean Murray, as ever, was well
prepared and solid in goal.  He was well supported by Daniel Masterson
and captain Davin Costello with the O’ Neill brothers, Ronan & Conor
in the pivotal midfield positions, the latter the ‘lungs’ of the team.
Up front Lorcan Molloy & Kieran Dowd did remarkably well.  James Moran
also played his part in a real team performance where everyone worked
hard and stayed positive throughout the game.

 Under 12’s, Colemanstown ‘B’

Our B team won 3 games and lost 5 and were eventually beaten by
Colemanstown A in the Quarter final. Panel: Stephen Kelly, Matthew
Ruane, Sean Flaherty, Jack Kennedy, Jamie Carroll, Shane Lally, Darren
Brennan, Colm Hansberry, Joshua Lane
