U12’s brave the elements to win on penalties

Football action resumed last weekend with 3 games down for decision.

Our ‘A’ team lost 1-nil to East Utd in yet another hard luck story, try as
they might they just could not score. They conceeded an early goal on 2 mins
with a fortuituous effort but Colemanstown quickly responded and dominated
the remainder of the 1st half. Chances went abegging with the best efforts
falling to Conor Feeney, Garry O Grady & Ollie Crowe. In the 2nd half it was
more tit for tat with Ollie Crowe having the best chance to level matters towards the end but his shot went harmlessly over the bar. A win is badly
needed, I can hear the sawdoctors in the background …. To win just
once…..
Our ‘B’ team also lost 3-nil on penalties and so bow out of the Divisional
Cup to neighbours St. Bernards on Saturday. It finished 2-2 after extra time
with Damian Concannon scoring both our goals.
Our under 12’s also played St. Bernards on a very cold, frosty Saturday
morning and well done to both sets of youngsters for togging out. The 1st
half was a close affair with few opportunities apart from Kieran Dowd
brushing the ball off the post. The 2nd half was much more open with chances
falling to both sides. Stand-in keeper Ronan O’Neill made some top class saves to keep us in the game. We conceeded a goal with 15 mins left but with
some astute positional changes Colemanstown pressed hard in search of the
equaliser and were rewarded following a series of corners when Daniel
Masterson’s shot a goal was spilled by the keeper, only for Stephen Kelly’s
sweet strike to make it 1-1 and so bring the game to extra time. Ronan O
Neill & Stephen Kelly traded places for the extra time period with the
latter acting as stand-in keeper. The strength & power of Ronan O’Neill in
midfield was obvious and this move paid dividends when Davin Costello
connected well with a Daniel Masterson corner to make it 2-1. In the last
kick of the game St Bernards levelled matters & penalties loomed. In the
shoot out Stephen Kelly was magnificent, stopping 2 while Daniel Masterson,
Conor O’Neill, Brian Connolly, Kieran Dowd & Lorcan Molloy dispatched their
eforts to ensure a hard tough win
