U14 & A Team Weekend Action

We had a busy first weekend of action with mixed results for our U14s and A team.  Our U14s played Colga ‘B’ at home on Saturday morning. Colemanstown started on top with defenders Ross Lally, David Walsh, Josh Buckley & Diarmuid Ryan moving the ball swiftly away from danger and custodian Fionn Flattery was solid all through. On the day, Colemanstown dominated right throughout the field and opened the floodgates with Cathal Hynes doing much tackling & passing in the centre of the park. Conor Walsh & Sean Connolly maintained a steady ship at the back in the 2nd half while Jamie Nutley made his debut as he held his own on the right wing. A hat trick from Killian Hughes, a brace from Cathal Kennedy, Kyle Madden, Dylan Murphy, Patrick Flynn and David Walsh helped them to a comfortable win.

Squad: Fionn Flattery, Ross Lally, David Walsh, Diarmuid Ryan, Josh Buckley, Cathal Kennedy, Cathal Hynes, Kyle Madden, Patrick Flynn, Dylan Murphy, Killian Hughes, Conor Walsh, Jamie Nutley, Sean Connolly.

Our A team got their new season off to a start away to Merlin Woods yesterday. However, it was not the start they wanted.  Chances were far and few for both teams as both defences held out well. It was one of those matches where one goal was going to win it. Unfortunately the goal came from the home side, with 15 minutes left. As always, the lads gave it their all and battled it out till the end. They all dug deep to try to get something out of the game. Captain Gareth Lally led by example and ran his heart out up front causing problems for the Merlin Woods defence for the last 15 minutes.

Jason Finn battled on bravely despite a nasty head wound and ended up in A&E to tend to his open wound. Alan Finn was solid and sharp throughout. Young debutant Ethan Lally showed maturity beyond his years and slotted in to the team effortlessly. No doubt, a bright star for the future.  In truth, Colemanstown failed to create enough chances but deserved more from the game.  But these lads will move on and go again next week at home to West Coast United.

Squad: Alan Finn Jr, John Lally, Conal Docherty, Jason Finn, Ethan Lally, Damien Wynne, Richie Lally, Gareth Lally, John O’Brien, Alan Finn, James Barclay, Sean Hardiman, Padraig Quirke.
