U14’s continue winning league form

Manager Jason Finn reports on Saturday’s U14 league encounter with MacDara.
Our U14s continued their winning form with a comfortable win over Connemara side MacDara on Saturday afternoon. In what was a lackluster opening 15 minutes where both sides struggled with the conditions, Colemanstown broke the deadlock on the 20th minute mark. After some great work from Killian Hughes in earning a free kick, Jonah Donnellan’s effort from 25 yards deceived the goalkeeper and went into the bottom corner.

Colemanstown doubled their lead shortly before half time. David Walsh’s corner found the head of Luke Williams who headed powerfully past the goalkeeper. The remainder of the half was evenly balanced with both sides defence on top.

HT: Colemanstown 2-0 MacDara

Colemanstown flew out of the blocks in the 2nd half. They quickly added to their lead when David Walsh’s shot from outside the box found the bottom corner. Thomas Mellody made his return to the club from Galway United and he was introduced for Jonah Donnellan. Mellody began to impose himself on the game and set up Killian Hughes with a great pass. Hughes remained calm under pressure and slotted the ball into the net for his side’s 4th. Colemanstown got their 5th when some great work on the right from Cathal Kennedy found the on rushing David Walsh at the back post to register his second.

MacDara got one back shortly after but Colemanstown finished the stronger when Cillian Fahey blocked a clearance to round the goalie and score his side’s sixth.

FT: Colemanstown 6-1 MacDara

Colemanstown have had better days and performance wise it was below par but they got the job done. They keep the pressure on Corrib Celtic which looks like they will be battling for the title in the new year!
