Vital 3 points for ‘A’ Team

Gary Devaney reports on the ‘A’ Team’s vital 3 points earned at home on Saturday last.
On Saturday our A-Team were at home to West Coast in the league. The two previous meetings of these teams produced 15 goals and this was always going to be another thriller. West Coast produced the first chance of the game when Kevin Sayers was forced to pull off an outstanding save from point blank range. Tom Flannery quickly returned the favour and forced the West Coast keeper to do the same after some fine work on the wing by Shane Lally but the deadlock was broken on 39 minutes when the ever reliable duo of Gary Lally and Richie lally combined to set up Tom Flannery again who made no mistake with his finish. Robbie Lally left the game after a collision with a West Coast player and changes had to be made.

Stephen Rabbitt and Jason Finn alongside David Mullins and Ronan Carr comfortably dealt with everything that was thrown at them until West Coast had a fortunate deflection to set up their first goal on 50 mins and then again on 53 mins when an outstanding strike from inside the half-way line saw West Coast go ahead. With the trio of Damien Wynne, Alan Finn and Padraig Quirke introduced it brought a new lease of life to the home team and it immediately changed the game when Geordan Kenny was fouled in the box. Tom Flannery stepped up and made no mistake with the resultant penalty.

The next attack saw a goal disallowed when Jason Finn was judged to have been offside. He is still pleading his case but it’s too late now!!!  With the sides level and Conal Docherty and Conor Callaghan introduced it didn’t take long for Colemanstown to go ahead. Alo Finn sent a ball across to the far post and was met by the head of Jason Finn to score his third goal of the season. Not bad for a defender. Both teams threatened until the game was decided on 85 mins when a kick out by Kevin Sayers picked out Alan Finn who in turn flicked the ball onto Geordan Kenny to run at the West Coast defence and then found Tom Flannery who claimed his hat-trick. It was a valuable three points and the lads deserved it. These bunch of lads are a credit to the club. After going 2-1 down they kept fighting and got what they deserved.
