Weather fails to dampen U14s display against Salthill Devon

On a day when very few matches went ahead due to the inclement weather, the only game to proceed was the U14s vs. Salthill Devon ‘B’ which manager Jason Finn gives an account of.

Our U14s got their league title charge back on track after a disappointing defeat to Corrib Celtic a few weeks ago to comprehensively beat Salthill Devon this morning in Drom

Colemanstown flew out of the blocks and had Salthill’s defense pinned within their own half. Jonah Donnellan and Jason Rabbitte tested the goalkeeper from distance as they also started to win the midfield battle. Rabbitte played a splendid pass with the outside of his left foot to Killian Hughes who showed great composure to calmly slot past the out rushing goalkeeper. Colemanstown’s second goal came as Cathal Kennedy showed some great trickery down the right to nutmeg the fullback and play a great pass to Rabbitte who shot powerfully past the goalkeeper. The third goal came from a great strike from Cillian Fahey who as always, worked tirelessly all through the game. Rabbitte then got his fourth just before the half time whistle as his shot from just inside the box flew into the top corner.

HT Salthill 0 – 4 Colemanstown

Harry Mitchell was introduced at half time as Jason Finn and Gareth Lally charges changed to a 4-4-2 formation.  Mitchell made an instant impact as he cut in from the left and was brought down inside the penalty box. Harry stood up himself and scored the resulting penalty to leave Colemanstown firmly in control. Salthill began to grow into the game and pulled one back due to an unfortunate own goal. Colemanstown introduced Gary Gill, Diarmuid Ryan, Jonathan Keane and Nathan Greaney and began to get a hold of the game again. Fahey got his second as some good work from Keane and Ryan on the right resulting in a cross which Fahey got on the end of with a brilliant finish. The best strike of the day goes to Mitchell as his wonderful volley from 12 yards flew right into the top corner after great work from David Walsh. Rabbitte then got his hat trick when Ciaran Keating played a long range pass to Hughes who played a great pass to Rabbitte. Jason took a great first touch and drove powerfully into the bottom corner from the edge of the box right before the final whistle.

FT Salthill 1 – 8 Colemanstown

Great performance from the lads. The defense marshaled brilliantly by Luke Williams were solid throughout. Rabbitte in the middle of the park worked tirelessly throughout and showed his great ability when needed. Hughes and Fahey led the line superbly and both deservedly got on the scoresheet.
