Nine goal thriller in U13 Div3 game vs Barna/ Furbo ‘C’

Colemanstown U13’s maintained their immaculate home record yesterday, averaging better than six goals per game thus far in the league. On home turf yesterday, they beat Barna/Furbo 6-3 on a sunny Autumnal morning. Killian Hughes opened the scoring on 6mins after Dylan Murphy did well to slide the ball through to him, but with still some work to do, Killy had to shake off the tackles of two defenders and round the advancing keeper before slotting into an empty net.  Jonah Donnellan drew a good diving save from the keeper on 10mins as Colemanstown were well on top. Davy Walsh made it 2-0 on 18mins after a good run down the left flank and his left footed effort from a long distance out deceived defenders and keeper as it found its way to the net.  David had a chance moments later to increase the lead but his left footed effort screamed over the bar. The last 7 minutes of the game belonged to the visitors. Straight from the kick out, the Colemanstown defence slipped up and as Fionn Flattery advanced to meet the ball, their striker nipped in to tap into an empty net. Soon afterwards they levelled matters as three orange shirts were on hand awaiting a delivery from the left flank which was eventually met by the boot of a Barna /Furbo player who made no mistake unmarked in front of goal, Suddenly Barna /Furbo were back in this game. Right on the stroke of half time, Conor Walsh was the last man back and as he brought down the inrushing striker, Ned immediately pointed to the penalty spot which was dispatched by the No. 10 to the left of Fionn Flattery. If anything, Barna / Furbo were a touch fortunate to go in at the break 3-2 up bearing in mind the number of chances the Colemanstown lads had from good positions in the first half.

Colemanstown restarted with plenty of zip. 10mins after the restart, David Walsh’s left footed delivery from the left corner was met by the head of Diarmuid Ryan and his glancing header found the net. Soon afterwards, another corner, this time from the right whipped in by David was defended but fell to Jonah Donnellan who whipped it back into the danger area where Cathal Kennedy was lurking in the corner of the box but the ball was smuggled off his toe. Two-thirds into the 2nd half, a cross from Jonah Donnellan was millimetres away from the head of Dylan Murphy while as the ball fell to David Walsh it was whipped back in where Killian Hughes met it perfectly to claim his brace. Colemanstown added another 25mins into the half after Cathal Kennedy’s delivery from the right was met by a combination of Colemanstown lads, took a deflection off the post while the rebound fell to Cian Burke who made no mistake in claiming his first goal of the season.  The last hooray belonged to Killian Hughes who claimed his hat-trick with a great strike from outside the box after Cathal Kennedy set him up.  This is the first time in a while that a Colemanstown team has scored 6 or more in three consecutive league games.

Well done lads. Onwards & Upwards.
