O35’s remain on track to claim Masters League Title

In the penultimate game of the Masters league campaign against Castlerea away yesterday evening, Colemanstown started off very well and had opened their account within the 1st minute.  Some great linkup play from Ronnie Geraghty and Sean Walsh in midfield & a slick pass to Kenny Duane saw him with his usual gait, run down the wing and with a sublime cross, Padraig Quirke finished exquisitely. Colemanstown played at a high tempo and their work rate paid off again when Quirke broke from midfield, powered through with goal on his mind and slot it past the keeper for a splendid individual goal.

Colemanstown’s defence were well on top with Ross Sullivan lashing out the instructions at the back. At this stage, our midfield bossed proceedings as Ronnie broke the offside trap and finished well to give Colemanstown a commanding 3 -0 lead. Colemanstown’s 4th came following idyllic work from Gerry Grady down the wing who provided a great cross which Aiden Corcoran finished off well to give Colemanstown an even better upper hand

The 2nd half saw Barry Forde make some changes to ensure as many players got playing time. Castlerea re-organised themselves and came out a much stronger & hungrier outfit and put Colemanstown’s defence under pressure again. Eventually Castlerea found the net with a fortuitous goal as Kenny Duane was unlucky to deflect the ball into his own net. However, the boys rallied and were rewarded with a 5th goal to ensure no way back for the Castlerea boys as Paul O’Connor chipped the keeper from all of 30 yards to finish comfortable 5-1 winners.

This was a great squad performance where everyone made a huge contribution. The boys are scheduled to play Ballinasloe in the last game of the league on Saturday evening in Ballinasloe. A win is required in this decider to guarantee top spot and add to the silverware cabinet for the season while a draw will suffice for the hosts.  We urge everyone to get behind the lads: 7pm KO in Ballinasloe on Saturday evening.
