Veterans 3-0 win over Dunmore

Colemanstown took on Dunmore at home in their 5th game of the O35s campaign on Saturday and started well with some swift passing and fast movement by our midfield and strikeforce. Colemanstown bossed proceedings in the first half with the opener coming from a long kickout from Kevin Sayers to Niall Rohan who caused Dunmore all sorts of headaches on the flank, dribbled down the wing and crossed into Paul O’Connor who finished off well. Niall Rohan and Ronnie Geraghty had further first half chances but their penetration did not lead them to find the net.

From the outset of the 2nd half Dunmore played some nice football but Colemanstown’s defence stood tall and Kevin Sayers made a few great saves for the men in green. Colemanstown’s 2nd goal came from another splendid kickout which Eanna Daly superbly controlled and then had the vision to spot Paul O’Connor with a lofty pass in which the lynchpin finished off. Colemanstown created a lot of space and embarked on some nice mazy runs particularly from wingers Niall Rohan and Kenny Duane.  Colemanstown stepped up the tempo after that and dominated til the end. Dunmore pushed forward in the hope of breaking on the counter and left gaps at the back which resulted in Colemanstown’s 3rd goal; Kenny Duane ran onto a pass from Kevin Sayers and finished off his shot brilliantly giving the Dunmore keeper no chance. At least we know now that someone has been taking goal celebration lessons…… Colemanstown defended stoutly to the end to see out the game comfortable 3-0 winners

Overall it was a great squad performance by all the lads with everyone receiving playing time and all who graced the field gave it 100%. These lads are picking up where they left off 10 years ago. It has to be a good feeling for them.  Their adrenaline is pumping and they give it their all. More importantly, there were no broken ankles, torn ligaments or soft tissue damage but then again, that’s what Dr. Gary Broderick is in the team for…..

There was a bit of sideline camaraderie between the top 3 players of the game- Kenny Duane for his dashes down the right, Niall Rohan for his dashes down the left and Gary Broderick for all his chit chat as to who would receive the man of the match accolade. In the end Niall’s convincing post-match argument sealed for him the prestigious title. After all it’s good to see the youngest member of the squad’s starting XI at 19years shining brightly for the O35’s.
