Over-35’s Match Reports

Colemanstown’s O35 team played their opening game of the season, this time taking part in the Roscommon division, against Cam Celtic on Saturday week, May 11th. They found the going a bit tough although they did start out well with the ageless Kenny Duane & Niall Rohan pushing forward on every attempt. Cam Celtic scored first with a long ball over the top which their striker ran on to and finished well past Kevin Sayers in the Colemanstown goal. In the 2nd half, Colemnastown came out strong with Garry O’Grady, Ronnie Geraghty & Padraig Quirke quenching any doubts over whether their bodies would permit another soccer season in the engine-room as they put the opposition’s midfielders under pressure. Colemanstown were rewarded when Kerrill Lally’s slick pass found Kenny Duane in space and his inch perfect cross was met superbly by Niall Rohan at the back post. Following the restart, Colemanstown were caught napping and Cam Celtic scored immediately. Colemanstown changed their format with three at the back and piled on the pressure but failed to breach a solid Cam defence. Nevertheless, it was a fairly solid team performance by all 13 players in their first outing and were unlucky in a way not to come away with at least a share of the spoils.  Final score: Colemanstown 1; Cam Celtic 2

Squad: Kevin Sayers, Alan Walsh, Gary Broderick, Kerrill Lally, Barry Forde, Padraig Quirke, Garry O Grady, Tommy Kelly, Kenny Duane, Niall Rohan, Peter Kelly, Paul O’Connor, Ronan Geragthy.

On Saturday last Colemanstown took on Castlerea on sunny home turf and clocked their first win in the O35’s campaign. The game began in a high tempo with fast passing movement leaving little time for lads on the ball. It was the visitors first time to travel to Colemanstown and it was them who took the lead early in the game as our defence buckled under pressure. Colemanstown steadied the ship though as Padraig Quirke delivered the equaliser with a great diving header after he connected superbly to a Niall Rohan delivery. Colemanstown sustained the pressure and Quirke added his 2nd. In the 2nd half, Colemanstown used the bench to good effect as many of these ould timers weren’t able for 90mins!!  Colemanstown put the game out of reach as Niall Rohan proved he hasn’t yet lost it when he added a 3rd after he latched onto a massive kick out from Kevin Sayers in goal to steer past the Castlerea custodian. Barry Forde’s men saw out the game by using the bench so that everyone got a taste of the action.  Final Score: Colemanstown 3; Castlerea 1
