5th successive league win for U12’s

With three points and a 5th successive league win zipped into the front pocket of manager Jayo Finn’s quilted coat, our U12’s went away happy yesterday. Even Gary Lally was applauded by the young players as he ventured away to tog out in goals for the A team’s game against Carraore side MacDara. This first post-Christmas league encounter against Moyne Villa played at home yesterday started in a somewhat drought fashion as chances came quick and fast for Colemanstown but no one was able to finish. David Walsh had 2 chances, one from a corner and his 2nd whizzed right across the face of goal while Jonah Donnellan’s piledriver was parried away by the ever vigilant busy visiting keeper. Killy Hughes drove over the crossbar after some great ball control from Cian Burke in midfield. David Walsh saw another effort whistle wide while Jonah Donnellan drew another superb save from the keeper who was well on top of his game. Cathal Kennedy tracked back well to avert a goal chance from the visiting No. 9 who was deadly fast on the break. Donnellan saw his headed effort fly over the crossbar on 20mins while the keeper turned another low hard drill of his around the post on 27mins. 0-0 at half time as the home crowd grew increasingly frustrated by Moyne Villa’s stubborn resistance, a visiting keeper on top of his game and a strike force unable to finish when chances looked clear cut.

What a difference 5 goals made in the 2nd half as the virtue patience was seen in abundance. Within a minute of the restart Jonah Donnellan drew another superb save from Moyne Villa’s custodian as Patrick Flynn was perfectly positioned for the rebound but hit the side net. No. 9 came close for Moyne Villa but Diarmuid Ryan got a fist to it to tap it over. Paddy Flynn, Cian Burke, Jonah Donnellan & David Walsh all lined up to take a shot which was eventually taken by the latter but again blasted over. Jonah Donnellan made the break through 5mins after the restart when he neatly collected the resultant poor kick out and slotted neatly under the keepers legs. This keeper was human after all and could be breached but the visitors from Headford refused to crumble as Diarmuid Ryan made a point blank save to keep Colemanstown in the driving seat. Donnellan was the assist for David Walsh to get his first of the day and richly deserved for his efforts all day to put some daylight between the sides. David Walsh’s piledriver from out near the stand drew another spectacular save while Donnellan was also denied by the keeper. Then David Walsh got his 2nd from a set piece as Walsh himself took a corner which was picked up by Paddy Flynn at the back post and tapped back out to David Walsh who finished superbly for No. 3. Although he made few mistakes all day, another short kick out from the Moyne Villa keeper was capitalised on by Paddy Flynn who went on a rampaging run before he swept in No.4. Flynn completed the rout when he tapped home from close range to make it 5-0 after a neat flick in this golden phase of the 2nd half.

In the closing stages Dan the man Melia hit the woodwork while the visitors had a late chance but blasted over doing little to trouble Diarmuid Ryan in the Colemanstown goal. Our rearguard: Killian Hughes, Cathal Kennedy & Ross Lally had a quiet enough day as little play came their way with the middle third and upfront the busiest areas of the field.
