Jayo Rabbitte’s 4 goal blitz help U13s on their way

On the evidence of today’s U13 game, there is nothing to worry about for Jason Finn and his charges after a 7 goal blitz, 4 from King Rabbitte, and a goal apiece from Tommy Mellody, Cillian Fahey and Jonah Donnellan saw our U13s beat Moyne Villa at home this morning. It was a game in which Colemanstown eased to victory as Rabbitte produced a wonderful individual display following his introduction that finished with him walking off the pitch with the match ball under his arm and a free jersey for the 4th goal (if we had enough footballs and jerseys!!) with all goals completed in style.

Jonah Donnellan opened Colemanstown’s account on 8mins as he maintained his composure after he ran on to a Tommy Mellody delivery from the centre circle to calmly slot to the keepers left. David Walsh then had a good left footed drive from distance which the keeper could only parry but he did well to clutch it on the 2nd attempt. Eanna Burke, Luke Williams, Ciárán Keating & Harry Mitchell hadn’t much to do in defence as they had to drive forward to get in on the action. Cian Ruane made 2 quick saves for Colemanstown as the visitors applied some pressure on 18mins; the first a good stop with his feet and the 2nd he parried away as the ball looked to be sneaking in by the post.  Tommy Mellody was then denied from close range as Moyne Villa’s keeper had to stretch to the butt of the post, credit to Killian Hughes for winning the ball back near the side line.  Mellody was not to be denied on 25mins as he cut across the box and beat 3 defenders before he slot to the right of the keeper. A minute later saw the introduction of the Rabi who immediately got in on the action as he shot from well outside the 18’ box and although the keeper did get his hands to it, there was enough spin on the ball to carry it over the goal line. Half time: Colemanstown 3; Moyne Villa 0

Colemanstown, again were quickest out of the blocks in the 2nd half with a hatful of more chances. Cilly Fahey fed Donnellan but the advancing keeper was quick off his line to beat Donnellan’s pace. David Walsh then had another effort from the edge of the 18’ box which was too hot for the keeper to hold and as the ball bobbled around in the box Jonah Donnellan’s wonderful back heel would have been the subject of conversation for a while had it found the net. David Walsh then whipped in a corner and up popped left back Harry Mitchell in his new role whose effort wasn’t too far off target.

Dara Scarry originated the move in defence which led to goal No. 4 as he found Rabbitte who had a quick link- up with Donnellan and back to Rabbitte who just squeezed the ball in style the right side of the post. By this stage the game had already turned into an exercise in damage limitation for the visitors. Cilly Fahey scored next, applying a confident finish after Tommy Mellody cut in across the box and the contest was as good as over. Eoin Keague and Larry Murajovos were then introduced to the action. A certain Moyne Villa goal was evaded only for the vigilance of Dara Scarry who cleared any danger on the goal line. Jayo Rabbitte claimed his hat-trick with a good run and just as good a finish with a great individual effort. Cilly Fahey then had a great run on the flank and showed great awareness to pick out Rabbitte in the box and the simplest chance he had the entire day was booted over the crossbar when you’d have put your house on him to score; a moment which even drew a smile from his father in the stand. At this stage it was a Jason show as he accepted a pass from Mellody and this time his effort whizzed over the crossbar while Tommy Mellody’s effort also flew over 20mins into the 2nd half. Luke Williams had a vital interception at the back when a goal looked ominous and as the ball broke on the counter Rabbitte was inches away from his 4th goal as he got on the end of a Mellody cross. Rabi’s work rate and tenacity was eventually rewarded as Nathan McGuire-Greaney linked up with Williams whose delivery found Rabbitte who beat 2 defenders before scoring his audacious fourth of the day.

This was a win richly deserved which sees Colemanstown U13s top the table with 5 wins out of 5, another clean sheet and looking good…..
