U12s march on in league

Our U12 game yesterday at home against Cregmore began and finished in the same vein, with Colemanstown well on top.  The first half saw the ball mainly in Cregmore’s half with most forward thrusts ending up in goals scored. Killian Hughes had the ball in the net within 3mins after David Walsh’s left footed cross from the stand side found Hughes who beat the offside trap to open Colemanstown’s account. Hughes made it 2-0 minutes later after Dylan Murphy worked the ball right through the heart of Cregmore’s defence and found Killy who made no mistake in his one-on-one effort with the keeper. Goal 3 came on 7mins from Jonah Donnellan who volleyed a superb David Walsh corner to the roof of the net. Donnellan and Hughes had further efforts which were not too far off target as they terrorised Cregmore’s defence. Dylan Murphy was next to pounce as he volleyed home No. 4 when he met Ross Lally’s cross perfectly to finish off a nice move. Murphy scored his 2nd on 28mins after a period of sustained Colemanstown pressure as they won corner after corner while eventually Davey Walsh’s cross was knocked into the net by Murphy’s knee. Just before the break, Murphy claimed his hat-trick after a great run through the centre of the park from Diarmuid Ryan which split open Cregmore’s defence once again. But Colemanstown weren’t finished the first half yet. Killian Hughes claimed his hat-trick in additional time when another Davey Walsh cross was whipped into the danger area which Jonah Donnellan stepped over to leave for Hughes who finished well. Mission accomplished before half time as Cian Buke was involved in almost every play in midfield and not too much pressure exerted on our keeper Fionn Flattery or our rearguard Niamh Kennedy (not Zoé this time), Ross Lally or Diarmuid Ryan. 7-0 at half time.

A few changes at half time meant the entire squad received playing time as Ella Carroll, Cathal Kennedy, Daniel Melia, Patrick Flynn and Shane Kenny were introduced while Diarmuid Ryan took up the custodians position as the departing Fionn Flattery had to support his older brother in the U14 football County final which the Menlough boys won easily enough. Well done to them. Patrick Flynn had a good effort straight from the restart but the ball was whipped off his toe by the keeper at the last minute. Shane Kenny found the side net moments later while Daniel Melia’s effort was drowned out by the keeper. Patrick Flynn and Daniel Melia showed great smarts before releasing to Ella Carroll who connected with her wrong foot thereby driving her effort wide at the three quarters stage. Daniel Melia added to the tally 20mins into the 2nd half when he got on the end of a Ross Lally corner. Patrick Flynn’s good run through the heart of the defence found Shane Kenny who hit the woodwork and the ball deflected wide. Killian Hughes was the assist for No. 9 as Patrick Flynn bulleted to the net with 5mins to go. Killian scored his 4th with a whopper of a shot from distance which deflected off the crossbar but like every good striker he followed up, and by the time the ball bounced back into play Hughes was on hand to poke home No. 10 for Colemanstown and No. 4 for himself. For the 3rd game in a row these boys were officially on fire with Cregmore’s defence rattled and they certainly relished every minute of this challenge.  Final score 10-0.
