U12s take visitors apart in 9 goal avalanche

Six different scorers got their name on the score sheet today as our U12s blitzed Oranmore/ Maree 9-0 at home this morning. Five goals came in the first half, four from Jonah Donnellan and defender Ross Lally also chipping in. Donnellan, playing in a rare up front position, had Colemanstown off the mark within 6mins after great combined work from Killian Hughes & Cian Burke in the middle of the park. Cian Burke was the assist in Colemanstown’s 2nd goal when Donnellan latched onto a defence splitting pass from Burke which took a kind deflection on its way and Donnellan made no mistake in beating the advancing keeper to claim his 2nd goal on 17mins. Burke then drew a great save from the visiting keeper while another effort from Donnellan drew a finger-tip save from the same custodian to thrust the ball over the crossbar. Dylan Murphy booted his effort over the bar from the resultant corner while Donnellan drew another top class save as the keeper did well to hold on to the ball. Cian Burke’s effort was marginally wide after he dribbled past a number of defenders whilst well in control of play. Defender Ross Lally got on the score sheet with a cracker from the edge of the large box; Burke again providing the assist. Dylan Murphy wasn’t too far away with a high speculative shot which was just over. Jonah Donnellan then claimed his hat trick with a whopping shot from a good distance out while Donnellan scored his 4th goal just before half time after the ball bounced kindly for him from a Killian Hughes cross. Half time: 5-0. Colemanstown’s defenders had to expend little energy as Ross Lally, Diarmuid Ryan & Dylan Murphy had little to do and drove forward on every opportunity. Ella Carroll and Sean Connolly also ensured that the home side dominated possession with almost all the Colemanstown players camped in Oranmore’s half of the field.

Ross Lally had a great chance right from the off in the 2nd half but he was inches away from connecting to a beauty into the box. Patrick Flynn beat the offside trap as he ran on to a long clearance from defence but his effort was marginally wide as he found himself one-on-one with the keeper. 7 mins after the restart Dylan Murphy got in on the act when he made it 6-0 from close range to keep his goal scoring form alive from last weekend. Killian Hughes found the butt of the post after a great individual run but made amends minutes later as he warmed the home supporters when he rattled the roof of the net with a piledriver after good work from Jonah Donnellan. Shane Kenny had a good effort from distance but went agonisingly over the crossbar. Straight down the other end, Fionn Flattery proved himself well with a great save between the posts for Colemanstown. Paddy Flynn found the side net with another effort while Daniel Melia held his composure well in a one-on-one effort with the keeper to slot home No. 8. Cathal Kennedy who was having a quiet 2nd half in defence saw his effort from midfield not too far off target. With 3 mins to go, Oranmore had a good chance from a free kick and as Fionn Flattery was rising to meet it, the ball flew over the crossbar. Cathal Hynes & Zoe Kennedy were fulfilling their roles perfectly in the 2nd half which led to Ross Lally finding the side net with a good solo effort. It was Patrick Flynn who had the last hooray with the magnificent 9th as he ran right through the heart of the Oranmore defence and booted to the right of the keeper to claim his first competitive goal this season. This convincing win comes back-to-back with last week’s avalanche of goals and also saw manager Jayo Finn head off for his midday date in upbeat form.
