Stalemate for Youth team in first league outing

Yesterday saw Colemanstown youth team play their first blockbuster game of the Youth League as Kinvara conceded the opening game of the season to them. Although playing against a gale force breeze in the 1st half, Colemanstown created some good chances especially in the 1st half on home turf. Good play by Geordan Kenny down the left wing saw his cross met by Michael Mulligan who volleyed wide. Moyne Villa’s main threat came from their set pieces. Colemanstown had an early let-off as Moyne Villa had a goal ruled out for offside. Daniel Glynn was exceptional in goal for Colemanstown competently dealing with everything that came his way. He was very quick off his line and made a particularly top-drawer save in the 1st half. Jack Barrett (our captain for the year) looked assured throughout the game with his constant talking and encouragement whilst also putting in a performance of a high standard.

Colemanstown’s best chance of the game came through great work from Michael Mulligan down the left flank; who pulled the ball across the goal where it broke nicely for Shane Burke who could only fire over from about 8 yards. The second half Colemanstown had to rely on Daniel Glynn again as he was quick off his line to make a save at the players feet. Chances were few in the 2nd half but Colemanstown had one great chance to break the deadlock when a long kick out bounced over the defenders and James Barclay took a quick snap-shot as the keeper was off his line but shot agonisingly wide. Although low on goalmouth action, it was a fascinating contest between the two teams and, in truth, both managers will probably be happy enough with the point. The team worked hard as Colemanstown may just have edged possession and showed glimpses of real beauty at times although there were few clear-cut chances at either end. Star performers on the day were Daniel Glynn, Aaron Molloy and Jack Barrett. Big thanks to Whacko Jacko (Conor Jackson) for the match notes.
