U13 & U15 League Match Reports

Colemanstown U13’s 5; Kilshanvey 1.

After winning the U12 County Hurling Final yesterday 7 players had to make the quick trip to Colemanstown for this latest U13 league encounter. There was little time to savour the hurling success for Harry Mitchell, Jason Rabbitte, David Walsh, Cian Burke, Dara Scarry, Cillian Fahey & Jonah Donnellan as they quickly togged from black and white to green and white and contributed handsomely to this 5-1 win. Although, Colemanstown were on the back foot within the first few minutes as Kilshanvey scored on the break, they asserted themselves to grab a hold of the game and as time went on they absorbed the early set back quite easily and reigned supreme until the end. Colemanstown levelled proceedings on 10 mins as Harry Mitchell & Tommy Mellody linked up well and as Mellodys shot thundered off the crossbar, Harry showed great predator instinct as he drilled home the rebound.   2mins later Harry Mitchell’s great run down the flank saw him cross into the 6’ box and as the ball bobbled around a bit, Jonathan Keane was on hand to finish to the roof of the net. The visitors went close with a free kick on 16mins even though Cian Ruane had his goal line well covered. Harry Mitchell scored his 2nd after a whopping left footed delivery from David Walsh at the back which split the defense but Mitch still had 2 defenders to round before firing home.  Half time score 3-1.

Just after the restart Johnny Keane & Jonah Donnellan linked up well together but Donnellan’s finish was just off target. 18mins into the 2nd half, another trademark David Walsh left footer in defense found Thomas Mellody who showed great pace before he produced a lovely finish to the net. Immediately from the kick off Cillian Fahey’s effort went right across the face of goal. Jonah Donnellan & Cillian Fahey linked up well but Fahey’s effort hit the post and out wide. Ciárán Keating and Tommy Mellody combined as Johnny Keane cracked home No.5 from the edge of the 6’ box. Final score: Colemanstown 5; Kilshanvey 1. Colemanstown played well as they restricted the visitors to just about 2 shots on target for the entire game. So 2 wins out of 2 so far for Jayo Finn & Edo Flannery’s young guns.

Squad: Cian Ruane, Killian Hughes, Luke Williams, David Walsh, Jayo Rabbitte, Nathan McGuire-Greaney, Ciárán Keating,  Eanna Burke, Tommy Mellody, Johnny Keane, Harry Mitchell, Cian Burke, Dara Scarry, Cillian Fahy, Jonah Donnellan.

Colemanstown U15’s 5; Oranmore/ Maree 2.

Having almost conceded this game on Friday evening due to insufficient players, these boys went at it hammer and tongs yesterday and produced a marvellous 5-2 away win with 5 players on the score sheet. While manager Gilly was dolled up enjoying himself, assistant Philip Dee had to rush from Athlone to help out while also thanks to Sean Moran who is a new match correspondent in the making with 5 pages of match notes!!.  Ryan Noone opened the scoring in the 6th min when he displayed exceptional footwork after he latched onto a through ball from Dara Hansberry at the back. Sean Hansberry’s effort shaved the crossbar as the Colemanstown lads grew in confidence and were quick to the ball. 13mins in and Michael Flattery scored a peach after a great run down the left wing dribbling past a number of players. Sean Hansberry, Michael Kelly and Mark Donnellan played some great passes into space where Ryan Noone and Michael Flattery were unlucky not to finish.  On 25mins Oranmore’s dominant No. 4 goaled with a close range pot shot which brought the game to life. Just before half time, Oranmore had a fantastic effort on target but stand-in keeper Michaél Ryan made a super save.  Half time 2-1.

The 2nd half was only 3mins old when Sean Hansberry found Conor Moran who scored his 3rd goal in 2 games. Straight from the kick-off Sean Hansberry’s great run down the left flank and as he cut in around the area he drilled a low left footed effort past the hapless keeper. Ryan Noone was then denied by the hosts custodian as Colemanstown were in full flow and showed great hunger for the ball led by maestro Michael Kelly at right midfield while defenders Dara Hansberry, Luke Lally, Conor Byron & Niall McDonagh held the defence line well and communicated well at the back. Super sub Artur Nilkulins was just on the field when he scored Colemanstown’s 5th  to ensure these boys were home and dry. Oranmore/Maree were awarded a penalty late in the game which they converted but in truth Colemanstown left nothing easy for them. Michael Kelly had a good effort saved just before the full time whistle after a great run and cross from Michael Flattery. Final Score: Colemanstown 5; Maree/ Oranmore 2. So in all, a great victory with an impressive display which should surely buoy them up heading into their next game in 2 weeks time.

Squad: Michaél Ryan, Dara Hansberry, Luke Lally, Niall McDonagh, Conor Byron, Mark Donnellan, Michael Kelly, Sean Hansberry, Conor Moran, Ryan Noone, Michael Flattery, Darragh Diskin, Artur Nilkulins.
