Our U15’s put in a solid healthy display away to Colga in their first league outing of the season. The effervescent Ryan Noone had Colemanstown off the mark straight from tip-off after a great run which culminated in a spectacular goal from the edge of the 18’ box. Luke Lally originated the move which materialised our 2nd goal as he whisked the ball down the right flank which Conor Moran latched on to and he played himself into space where he shot a beauty into the far left corner. Moran again attempted to lob the keeper on 33mins with a high speculative shot which was marginally over the woodwork. Our 3rd goal came again from Moran, originated by debutant Niall McDonagh who had a fine first ever game for Colemanstown, put through a ball for Moran to run on to and as his first effort was saved he was perfectly positioned to squeeze the rebound past the hapless keeper. Just before half time Niall McDonagh had an effort which crept wide after Daragh Diskin did the donkey work while Michael Flattery got a boot to a Moran corner which went the wrong side of the post. Half time 3-0.
Immediately on the restart, Colemanstown kept up the pressure. Conor Byron worked hard on the left flank, crossed into Niall Mac who drew a one handed save from the keeper. Daragh Diskin was just off target after Conor Moran displayed great ball control and lovely footwork before playing to Diskin. Micháel Ryan then played Moran from the opposite side of the field and with plenty of time to compose himself he blasted over the bar. Right at the death Ryan Noone whipped in a cross for the inrushing Josh McGuire Greaney; had he connected perfectly it would have been a classic. That said 3-0 was sufficient to claim all 3 points and get these boys off on a winning streak.
It was a day when Conor Byron, Dara Hansberry & Micháel Ryan added desire and influence at the back led by Luke Lally. Mike Kelly again worked like a horse as nothing fazes him. Niall McDonagh put in a solid display on his debut while Conor Moran covered every blade on the field. Ryan Noone showed great pace and footwork while Daragh Diskin and Mickey Flattery worked tirelessly up front. Josh McGuire-Greaney almost scored a peach; Artur Nilkulins held his own in midfield while stand in keeper Mark Donnellan maintained a clean sheet and showed good awareness and ball handling. Thanks to manager David Gilligan these lads had a total understanding of their role in the team formation as they showed great confidence and exuberance. So two 3-0 wins for Gilligan’s charges today as he had a dashing spin to Colemanstown where the ‘A’ team also grafted a 3-0 win over Renmore. Next thing we’ll hear Man Utd are looking for him when José gets the sack…..
