U14s lose to neighbours St. Bernards

Our U14s took on St. Bernards this evening in the league albeit there was nothing for either side to play for at this latter stage of the league competition. The breeze played puck for both teams making it difficult to control the ball and made accurate passing that bit more difficult. The visitors made the most of the wind advantage in the first half with the decisive goal coming after 6mins when Bernards central defender reacted quickly to volley home a corner from the edge of the box. Minutes later Sean Hansberry’s free kick drew a save from the visiting keeper as he spotted a gap in the wall to slip the ball through but the keeper saved with his feet. Colemanstown’s first real chance came on 26mins when Ryan Noone’s effort was turned around the post for a corner. There was little more first half shouting as Bernards went in 1-0 up at the break.

Within 2mins of the restart Mark Donnellan missed a golden opportunity. Michael Flattery’s attempted chip of the keeper was well saved after good combination play from Conor Moran and Ryan Noone. There were little more real opportunities for either team apart from a piledriver from Sean Hansberry which almost cracked the crossbar when the keeper looked well beaten. As the clock ticked down Josh McGuire-Greaney had a half chance but the keeper had an easy take. 1-0 it finished as Colemanstown were unable to find the equaliser although they did push hard in the final few minutes. Just 3 games left to go at this stage in the league.
