Colemanstown 10K – 5 sleeps away

With the 10k race day only 5 sleeps away the deadline for those wishing to register online is looming. Registration on www.active.com or www.runireland.com closes on Thursday night March 29th. Places for the Colemanstown 10K Road Race are being snapped up quickly and those interested in taking part are being urged to act fast before on line entry closes this Thursday. Registering online can save you additional paperwork on the day. However, all is not lost if you don’t get to register online, registration will be accepted on Saturday morning at the clubhouse in the soccer grounds. We urge as many as possible to car pool given that our previously used car park is being currently converted into a 2nd playing pitch. Colemanstown 10k follows a flat, fast scenic course along the picturesque area of Colemanstown and is recognised as one of Galway’s fastest road races that’s ideal for runners of all abilities. This year, the course has been re-measured under AAI rules by Andrew Talbot.

Supporting events in our community is very important to us and the opportunity to be involved in such a significant event is very gratifying for all involved.

This run has attracted leading male and female competitors from around the county since its inaugural date in April 2011. Similar to other years, there is a range of prizes on offer, first 3 male & female home and category prize winners for O40/ O50/O60/O70 male and female.  Our prize money will be generously sponsored for the 8th successive year by Frank & Bernie Burke, c/o Burke’s Bar whose generosity with this road race in terms of both time and prize money, put simply, knows no bounds. Each person taking part will receive a complimentary token on registration. Last year’s race was won by Matt Bidwell, GCH who finished in 33:36. The first female over the finishing line was Jane-Ann Meehan, Athenry AC, one of Galways leading road runners in 37:09. There is also a kiddies race at 11am where all children will receive a goody bag and finishers medal. The kids race has always been spectacular in itself; just to see the little ones faces as they cross the finish line.

Race organisers emphasise the friendly nature of the 10K with their post-race invitation to participants to head back to Burkes bar where  Joe Hession will be putting on a great session. The  soccer club together with the huge goodwill of many locals put on its now infamous spread including teas, coffee,  sandwiches, brown bread and salmon, meringues, queen cakes and lots of cake and bits which may be too good to say ‘No’ to. So get registering today and dont miss out on your opportunity to take part in the 8th Colemnastown 10k road race.
