U11’s vs Oranmore in Development League

It was a busy morning in Colemanstown this morning as our U11’s took on Oranmore in the U11 South Galway Development league.  This was strictly for players born 2007 only.  Our U9’s, players born 2009, took on neighbours St. Bernards afterwards on a bitterly cold February morning. The youngsters didn’t feel an ounce of the cold as the hot chocolate afterwards may have helped alleviate the cold a certain degree. According to FAI rules clubs are not permitted to post results or match reports on Under 9/10 matches on their website or any social media platform. This is to encourage playing in a fun filled environment where results matter to nothing but players have the opportunity to express themselves and just enjoy the game.

Our U11’s were in flying form as Shane Kenny scored the opener after 10mins. 5mins later Fionn Flattery scored from almost the half way line as the ball found its way through a hole in the net. Fionn connected well to a Killian Hughes ball over the top to find the roof of the net and make it 3-0 at half time. David Walsh and Cian Burke drew great saves from the Oranmore keeper. A combined effort from Kilian Hughes & Sean Connolly set up David Walsh but his left footed effort whizzed over the crossbar. Cian Burke set up ‘John’ but his well taken effort was superbly saved. David ‘John’ Walsh then went on the rampage with 3 goals in quick succession; his first a great individual goal superbly finished. Shane Kenny was the provider for his 2nd with a bullet into the top corner from the edge of the box. Cathal Kennedy & Fionn Flattery tried their luck at goal but the Oranmore defence stood their ground while at the same time Ella Carroll showed absolutely no fear whatsoever with some heroic interceptions in the middle of the park. Ross Lally in defence originated the next goal as he ran up the right flank and found Kilian Hughes who side footed into the net. Cathal Kennedy scored a good individual goal with 2 mins left after running almost half the length of the pitch. ‘John’ had the final say with a splendidly executed volley from the edge of the box following a Fionn Flattery corner.

U11 Panel: Fionn Flattery, Ross Lally, David Walsh, Sean Connolly, Cian Burke, Ella Carroll, Cathal Kennedy, Shane Kenny, Kilian Hughes.

Well done to all U9, U10 & U11 players, their mentors and the bakers who kept all bellies filled and the welcome copious cups of tea, coffee and drinking chocolate dished out on a cold morning.
